don't know if you expect an answer but here I go:
I think it's a common view that earth was created perfect, by Mother Nature, or Father Random, with bears in America, lions in Africa, wolves in Europe, tigers in India etc.
Then came the human race, who now rule the place, and the above species are endangered (and many others).
Some people want to preserve them to fit their childish view of an harmonious world. If a tourist or a local get killed is none of their business.
That's how it goes...
But let's preserve cats, they're cute.
