recording out of a headphone port is not going to bring you good results. it will distort. you need a line out.

by "recording tapes through the microphone of your canon" -- is that different from your video camera?

i think im qualified to give you an answer in this area, except that i'm not very clear about what you need... audio tapes from live shows or something?
