I hate it when people do this and you're expected to respond sympathetically.

I remember working with a guy who told me we should at least be thankful that the guy taking over the company i was working for at the time (who was American) wasn't a 'paki'. He then just looked at me, clearly waiting for me to say something like 'totally', in response. I remember sort of just going, 'mmm' quite vaguely, but which I think he read as a 'yes, I agree'. I hated myself for ages after that for not having the guts to call him a wanker.

I hate the way arseholes always seem to want you to agree with them.
