The instrumental thing sounds promising... I loved some of the stuff they used to do like that; Bobo On The Corner and the rest. They had a record full of it, right? The In Sound From Way Out or something.

EDIT: Heart Attack Man and I Want Some were snazzy, too, as far as proper "band" songs go.
