i was reading about theories of rape. there are several out there, but the jury still seems to be out on what causes it and how to prevent it

going back to the surveillance bit, which i though was the original motivator... it's so fucking complicated because traditional societies have/had forms of surveillance and rape prevention, but a) some of those strategies are considered intolerable by "modern" approaches, b) even sophisticated social mechanisms generally have not covered rape within the marriage, which i think has only been recognized as such in recent times
