Finally saw Moonlight. It really was excellent. I can’t believe it won best picture, and for once I’m saying that in a positive way, meaning it seemed an unlikely winner, but it was a truly deserving one.
Some heartbreaking moments, but all in all, it’s a film that runs almost entirely on the measured performances of its actors. There’s little in the way of traditional climax. It’s told through facial expressions, emotion, tension, tone, and the selection of musical interludes.
Really a remarkable movie.
