
I'm preparing for an English Language test at the moment, and we're talking about language change. As an example, the teacher bought up these deep-fried potato snacks - you can get them from fish and chip shops, and they're awesome.
But anyway: in my state, we call them potato cakes, which is a good thing. In New South Wales, they call them potato
scallops, which is bad and gross.
And we've been told specifically not to be prescriptivist in our essay, but...it's so tempting; they're so wrong on this issue.
