MST has always been a really interesting show in how surprisingly intellectual it was. Not in any real technical sort of way, but in how delightfully esoteric it could be. There are lots of references to people on the show who I don't know. And sometimes it's pretty interesting when you hear a joke for years, don't really get it, and then finally get it after the proper exposure.

My light example being in Invasion of the Neptune Men. There are those two jokes in there 'he must be the Piggy of the group' and 'Kill the pig drink his blood!' both of which I didn't really get at the time. And then a few years back I read Lord of the Flies, and then the next time I saw that episode, it clicked 'ooooooooooh', I thought. That's pretty neat.

But that's always been interesting to me how long it was able to be on the air considering all it had going against (two hour time slots, esoteric riffing). Beautiful show.
