It's pretty visceral, physical. I like the image.
I used to say to my wife, "I could suck the lips right off your face." She has nice lips.
Psychologists and others tell us that we want to consume the ones we love. It's not surprising that the things we say and the images we use to describe our intense feelings of love and attraction, then, often have to do with literally eating up our objects of love and desire.
