I'd never heard of this until someone lent it to me. One of the most left-field, and definitely one of the most politically incorrect arthouse movie I've seen.
L'Avventura (9/10)
Love it. This was the movie that first made me take up film studies. I wrote my first academic paper on it and it's still the movie I think about probably more than any other. It's not (quite) perfect; some of it playing like a parody of an arthouse movie. Although other scenes are about as good as film gets, for me. And Monica Vitti remains the most beautiful woman I've ever seen on screen.
