chasing amy - 7/10

Pretty cool movie. Love how trashy, sloppy, and nasty it is... kinda felt like Smith was trying to sabotage his own career, in a way. I mean, the film flat-out feels WRONG at times, yet it works. At the same time, it feels REAL -- something I can't say for any of his other films (even the other 2 I like). It feels like Smith putting all his cards on the table -- really opening up, putting himself out there. It felt personal. And it's fascinating. Oh, and Jay and Silent Bob aren't in it for a while (and when they show up, they get a great scene). So, that's definitely a plus, they are the worst characters ever. Jason Mewes is just a talentless heroin addict. Anyway -- made for like a FIFTIETH of the budget of Dogma... and this is 5000000 times better! Haha! Anyway, I watched it like 10 years ago and thought it was garbage, but now, I really dig it. It's not nearly as annoying as Smith's films after this one! It actually seemed to have a heart, something I can't say for any of Smith's films. Here's all my Kevin Smith ratings:

clerks - 9/10
mallrats - 8/10
chasing amy - 7/10
dogma - 3/10
jay and silent bob strikes back - 2/10
jersey girl - 3/10
clerks 2 - 4/10
zack and miri - 6/10
cop out - 5/10

related:
vulgar - 7/10
drawing flies - 5/10
a better place - 7/10

Hudson Hawk - 8/10

This is a great film. It's fucking hilarious! Why would anyone dislike this movie? "The last time you saw me, I had a bald head, a moustache, and a fake nose." Hahaha! All the singing, dancing... David Caruso's mime character painted like a statue. Hilarious film. So absurd. My favorite part has to be when Hudson Hawk is falling from a building and it cuts to him falling into some guy's chair. Obviously supposed to be completely different scenes in completely different times, but they got all elliptical -- which apparently confused Roger Ebert, even though it's supposed to just be a comedic cut! There's no deeper meaning in it, or the rest of the movie -- it's just fucking funny! I'm just not sure why great films like this, and LEONARD PART 6 -- absurd surreal comedic masterpieces -- are so overlooked and underappreciated. Awesome movies!
