/ artists (P)Real Name:Phil Parfitt, Dan Cross, John Saltwell, Josephine Wiggs, Allison Pates, Malcom Catto, Richard Geismar,Kevin king, Julian NelsonProfile:Band leader Phil Parfitt originaly started out in punk band The Varicose Veins releasing the now highly collectable single Incredible in 1978. Then followed releases as The Orange Disaster, The Architects of Disaster, before settling on The Perfect Disaster following its rhythm section's departure to form Fields of the Nephilim. When the group's Velvet Underground-influenced alternative pop/rock failed to break onto the British scene, they moved to France in 1985 and released a self-titled album with a lineup of bandleader/singer/guitarist Phil Parfitt, bassist John Saltwell, guitarist Allison Pates (also ex-The Varicose Veins), and drummer Malcolm Catto. The band continued to struggle, releasing only a few EPs, and by the time The Perfect Disaster finally secured a record deal in the U.K. in 1987, Saltwell and Pates had quit and were replaced by bassist Josephine Wiggs and guitarist Dan Cross. 1988's Asylum Road, based on Parfitt's experiences working in a mental hospital, received favorable reviews, as did 1989's Up. Wiggs left the band during the recording of 1990's Heaven Scent in order to work full-time with Kim Deal's Breeders. Parfitt went on to collaborate with Spiritualized frontman Jason Pierce before drafting in Lead Guitarist Kevin King, bassist Julian Nelson & drummer Richard Geismar, the band then changed their name to Psychotropic Vibration & musical direction, playing a more Post Punk/dub/krautrock style. Psychotropic split around 1992 with Parfitt going on to form Oedipussy.Members:Josephine Wiggs

I've been going to concerts since 1968....and yeah, many are fuzzy, faded, blurred....stoned out memories, whereas others are quite vivid....

'68 Duke Ellington, Count Basie and others...Newport (RI) Jazz Fest. w/ parents....I can 'see' the stage in my mind...was bored silly at the time though. Too bad, however I'm glad I do have a vision of it at least...

'69 Led Zeppelin, Johnny Winter, BB King, Herbie Hancock....same festival...better memories...I even posted about it on a major Zep site...

'71....3 Dog Night, Chicago, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, 10 Years After....good memories...and I recorded Zep and Sabbath !!

'72....James Gang, Canned Heat, Steve Still's Manassas....several others....

1973-2006....about 500 or so more !!! Some I don't remember at all !!! Just the shit bands though....

porkmarras 10.28.2006 11:49 AM

Birdland
Scorpio Rising
Darkside
The Charlatans
Candyflip

Summary:
The bands collectively known as Crime & the City Solution provided a starling new look at the concept of rock. Lead by an unrelenting voice in Simon Bonney, the band included musicians from other bands including The Birthday Party, Einstürzende Neubauten, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and more. During it first tumltuous stage in Australia, the band was just a spark of the flame which was to burn in London and Berlin in the mid to late 80's. This site is a resource for looking at this single band, these individual members and the music they created

Darkside were another for me. Totally underrated psychedelic pop music.
All that Stone Roses-era stuff, of course.
Electric Wizard
Queens Of The Stone Age
Six Organs Of Admittance
Pelt
Magic Hour/Major Stars (saw the first Major Stars show ever)
