sonic youth on gonzo, mtv2uk
they said on the show this morning (a repeat from earlier in the week), that theyre gonna have sonic youth as a guest quite soon!! whoop! this should be quite good, as the zane lowe seems to be a fan, and know his shit, so their wont be any questions like "it seems like you sing more on this one"...
|
That could be pretty cool. I shall keep my eyes and ears open for it.
|
someone please tape it and put it online!
|
Zane Lowe seems to be a fan of everyone who guests on that show.
|
yeh, hes a major kissarse, but i think he genuinely digs the youth. in previous shows hes made joking references to glenn branca, so hopefully itll be a good interview.
|
zane lowe knows jack shit about sonic youth on a previous NYC special gonzo show when they played sonic youth he struggled to list 3 sonic youth albums, he got sister and daydream nation and he couldent think of anymore.
|
is Gonzo the UK equivalent to the US's Subterranean?
|
i really detest Zane Lowe. I had a maths teacher name Steve Lowe who was also a real cunt...
|
At first Zane irritated me a bit because of the kissarse thing, but I grew to realise that he loves what he does, and always displays knowledge of what's happening, so I'll ook forward to this. ANd I'll post anything I hear.
|
How can you find out what day they will be on? I'll try to keep a watch out for it!
Zane Lowe would be fired if he wasn't a kissarse so it ain't actually his fault. |
Yeah but he's a real kissarse. I can't really tolerate him to be honest. I'm sure he loves what he does...but I just can't tolerate him.
|
noisemachine-
i dont think it really has an equivelant in the US. its basically just the one guy on a couch talking about music and playing lots of videos. its really informal, but in my opinion one of the best music shows on tv if you can stomach the sometimes annoying presenter, and mtv2uk's insistence on playing whatever the NME tells it to... |

mtv2?
nah i'm disconnected. put it online or let me know when, so i can go somewhere to watch it. cheers! |
hehe yeh i didnt sell it very well. basically i like it, because i dont mind the presenter, and they have a lot of room for participation, as you can write in gig reviews, questions and comments on the messageboard, and they actually get read out. they also play a fair bit of good stuff inbetween the nme bands.
also, and this might be key, there really arent many good music shows at all on in the uk |

Well, for any faults he may have, Zane Lowe always shows a love for and knowledge of what he does. He's also prepared to take the p*** out of himself for his kissarseness, which is okay. And at the end of the day, I have to say that Gonzo is intended to be a lighthearted show, not a modern 'Old Grey Whistle Test' or whatever. So it doesn't always matter that the intervies aren't too deep (except that the Public Enemy interview was a wasted chance). They always give good coverage to the South by Southwest festival. The recent show with a selection of acoustic performances had some good stuff on. As the doctor has just said, they read out message board stuff, which makes it feel quite friendly. And they occaisionally play some of the less mainstream stuff that's neglected by MTV2 most of the time, unless you're up at three in the morning. It's not perfect, but it's watchable. I've gotten into a few bands in the last three years by watching it. |

Sounds cool. Thanks for the response, dan. |
ever watch 120 minutes, bro? that's okay sometimes...

I like 120 minutes a lot, yes. they sometimes play gothy stuff and techno that's goood. They put a '120' selection on in the evening now aswell. |
zane lowe is such a total fanbuttboy. i really hate that guy.
i hope that whoever is on realises he is just a total suck up and destroy him so he cant pretend to be such a close friend to the stars when he is blathering on to everyone in the pub. |
