the brass players thread

trombone for 5 years. i play with a really rusted olds but it's a sweet jazz horn. no good for concert bands but terrific for squeeking it out

I don't play any brass instruments, but I have experimented & recorded tracks w/ an antique horn. I don't if it's a certain type of horn, or if someone just made it to be unique.
I could post the track that I mentioned, if you don't mind.

goooo nuts!

Alright, this is definetly a noise/improv experiment. I used vocal manipulation, & of course, the antique horn together to try something different.
I think it's an o.k. track, personally, I thought I could have done better.

"Heavenly Voice"

I was thinking of calling it "The Water Walker". I don't know, it just has this ocean quality sound to it.
Well, let me know what you think.

I don't own any brass instruments, but hand me one and I could probably make some sort of arrangement.

That's pretty much what I did w/ the "Heavenly Voice" track I made.
The horn that I used doesn't even make notes, you just blow & shake, & some interesting noises come from this.

I'm really intrested in this thread. Please feel free to discuss any experience you've had w/ playing brass instruments.

well i played trombone in a ska band occasionaly. we don't get together that often. the only song we can play together currently is riding the third wave by catch 22 which is a fun song. i prefer to jam along with those abersol jazz play along books or just random cds. it's fun to play with random blues artists, trip hop and electronica artists, pyshedelic bands, and even occasionally the good youth

There are a number of instruments I'd like to learn, piano of course, but also the brass instruments & horns. There seems to be uncountless ways to make interesting sounds & effects from a brass instrument.

I like the French Horn. A chap in my band plays to concert standard (as well as violin & guitar). I keep asking him to leave it with me, but given that it's worth about a gizzilion pounds, he's rightly said no so far.

I can just about get a C major out of it. But it can't be that difficult now, can it?
