Thanks Toilette

Went to see Ashtray Navigations and as a novice they've blown me away. The great thing was that even though the acoustics were bad the sound was resonating through the ceiling to create a band within the band.Nice chaps they turned out to be too and guess what?I bagged Henry flint's 'back porch hillibilly blues vol. 2' for a smart 11 quid. They had to restrain me from the record stall or i would have ended up with no food till the end of the month.

glad you enjoyed it.

I really want to see Ashtray Navigations....

How come they were selling Henry Flynt records on the merch stall? Was the gig put on by Second Layer or something? (I saw it advertised on their site I think)

Toilet & Bowels 08.05.2006 07:43 AM

yeah it was put on by second layer. hopefully it won't take 10 years for ashtray navigations to come back.

i know phil (ashtray) quite well. we used to play together quite a lot in various ensembles. they are always quite different live becuase of the constant changing lineup but its always been good and interesting. check out first person records for an ace live cd. also get the frozen stake one, cough.

The very way the gig started is still ringing in my ears right now.I don't know f it was a mixture of tape and guitar feedback but i was really impressed.Enjoyed every single minute of it.If anything(as i've said already),it was too short.

jon boy 08.06.2006 04:22 PM

who was in the band? he has been playing with ben reynolds of late.

porkmarras 08.07.2006 03:41 AM

There was a guy with ginger hair,a girl who played the clarinet and another bloke with long curlish hair who sat on stage and messed with the guitar with one of those toys that light up.They also had another guy standing by the stage and helping out with the sound while making funny gestures.

jon boy 08.07.2006 07:17 AM

any pics? was the ginger haired fella kind of big with glasses?

porkmarras 08.07.2006 07:20 AM

He wasn't big as in fat but he was pretty much on the lanky side and he was wearing glasses.I brought my minidisc player in with the intention of recording it but i realized the battery run out when i switched it on,damn it!!!

I used to get a lot of good stuff from Betley Welcomes Careful Drivers, but I only ever got Ashtray Navigation's Find A Magic Lantern In The Woods. That was back in the mail order days, pre-internet.

jon boy 08.07.2006 11:28 AM
