Record Player Help

I was recently given over 800 vinyl records from one of my friends that is moving so i just recently bought a new Audio-Technica AT-PL120 Professional Direct-Drive Turntable. I don't know that much about Vinyl or turntables for that matter and i was wondering besides the turntable what else would i need to play the albums, i know i need speakers but someone told me that i need to make sure that the speakers are self powered so that i don't need an amp...how would i know if a set of speakers are self powered?

If you plug in your turntable to the receiver and it sounds teeny coming out of the speake4rs, you will need to go to radio shack, buy a pre-amp ($25 or so) and a 9 volt battery and connect it all, and you will ROCK.
something like this. it is not too big, a bit bigger than a pack of smokes

Lucky fucking bastard! 800 free records!!!!

Do RCA CAbles have to correspond with their matching colors?

You need to make sure that they go in the same side of the signal. I usually go red=right, white=left, but as long as left out goes to left in and right out goes to right in on the other end you will be fine. They color code these things to make it easier on people.
