I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that its Eastwoods fault the 92nd Infantry & 332nd Fighter didn't participate in the Pacific

Coogan's Bluff is one of my favourite films ever. There's a great scene where he punches a hole through a wall and it scares the shit out of a slutty hippy girl.

That's moe like it.

There are two kinds of people in this world, those with guns, and those who dig.

You dig.

Classic Clint (from "The Enforcer')

Bad Guy: "Now lay down on the floor, Pig!"

Clint/Dirty Harry: "But this is my new Sports-Jacket!"

Haha. Anyway - I love Spike Lee, but he also had a shot at the Coen Brothers' "No Country for old Men" because he reckoned they trivialised violence and death. What a hypocrite! Did you guys ever see Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam" - all about Sam Berkowitz - the NY serial killer of the late 70s?

Check out this scene:

spike lee is an idiot and all of his movies are awful.

MellySingsDoom 06.10.2008 02:51 AM

As soon as Spike Lee used the "plantation" comment against Clint Eastwood, he murdered any of the (quite reasonable in some ways) points he's been trying to make.

Mr Lee has form against Eastwood too - he moaned about Eastwood making the Charlie Parker biog "Bird", because, uh, Clint is white and Bird was black. Also, Spike also ranted about "The Unforgiven" receiving an Oscar for best film, an award Spike felt his film at the time should have received ("Malcolm X"? "Mo Better Blues"?)...

no, spike is not a fuckwit but he was probably on autopilot-- he's got this schtick and it probably got schtuck in it. foot in mouth disease. good answer from mr. whitie though.

ZEROpumpkins 06.10.2008 04:05 AM

Even when Clint Eastwood is dead he'll still be a badass.....from beyond the grave!

Cantankerous 06.10.2008 04:21 AM

spike lee is an idiot. but he did make do the right thing which almost redeems him. sort of.

Toilet & Bowels 06.10.2008 06:32 AM

spike lee's made some good films, but he's a dickhead and i saw him in the street a few years ago and he's got a big fat arse like a middle aged woman's

ZEROpumpkins 06.10.2008 06:49 AM

Haha so many celebrities are jerks in real life. A friend of a friend saw Billy Corgan in the street here when the pumpkins were in town. She stared at him for a while and he came up to her and said "I'm not a ghost".

Also I hear Thurston is a prick :(

ricechex 06.10.2008 07:39 AM

Yeah, i feel Spike is being too PC on this one. Same thing happened with the 9/11 flag hoist when four white guys did it. If you think it should be one spanish, one black, one chinese, and one white, then its too staged and pc for me. Also, you're assuming it was sinister by design not to include all races, when it could have just as easily have been the moment. Spike is making something out of nothing.

I actually believe that Clint Eastwood is one of the most credible and interesting filmmakers working in Hollywood right now, quietly producing a string of semi-independent features outside of the limelight, without ever trying to capitalise on his earlier 'tough guy' persona. It'd be easy for him to just churn out variations on the Dirty Harry theme but instead he's created films that, if anything, resist that kind of theme altogether.

Where Lee has increasingly allowed himself to be pushed into a creative cul de sac, both through his films and his comments, Eastwood has grown to become someone that seems in total control of his own artistic destiny. He's a rare commodity in Hollywood at the moment: an artist of dignity, intelligence and integrity; capable of making commercially and critically successful movies entirely on his own terms. A legend in the best sense of the word.

A true Great.

A self-styled cliche.

pbradley 06.10.2008 08:13 AM

Sad to say but Lee's comments only provide evidence to me of the deflated and arbitrary state the black power movement has come into. Maybe the aging Spike misses the controversial days?

demonrail666 06.10.2008 08:29 AM

I've not followed Lee's position on the whole Obama thing. Would be interesting to know what he thinks of the whole thing. I could search for info on the www, but I'm looking at porn right now on askjolene, so can't be arsed. anyone know anything?
