Im so fucking into punk right now...its such a revolution in music, starting with iggy and the stooges back in the 60's, the sex pistols and the ramones. Other bands i love, black flag, anti flag, NOFX!! and the minutemen (even though u cant really call them punk), Less than jake, the descendents (anybody know 'Silly Girl' - this song is fucking wuurrrd), (the old) green day records. I like husker du, and most shit off SST...so yeas, long live the punk. Its totally not what it used to be though, which is kinda gay. Its so glam nowadays. Punk gigs are also ones to remember. Ive seen green day, NOFX, less than jake 3 times, an countless little crappy support bands down at the underworld (includin my mates "REELY FOOL").

i think those bands, and to each their own, aren't really punk, they are more like punk influenced rock bands, because they are very derivative about their music who also happen to be watering down that same kind of music. they get called punk because their music is 3 chords and a fast drum beat, but they don't sound very in the spirit of other punk bands like flag, bad brains, dead kennedys or, in their league, early bad religion, descendents, adolescents or social distortion. they sort of take the sound, give it a very production and fancier gear and go with it. they are also very gimmicky, don't you think?

i have to say that i liked less than jake's first albums, and there's a couple of nofx's songs i like.

but, well, punk is very broad and different to every person, so you considering them punk is as valid as me not considering them that.

Gimmicky yeah. i tend to avoid bands like that. And yeah, Pezzcore, Losing streak and hello rockview were the best Less than jake records. As for NOFX - you need to hear the early stuff. For a great example, check Green Corn, or The Moron Brothers. That'll prove that nofx are punk legends.

i pesonally think nofx sucks, i mean the things i've heared by them are dread awfull, I like black flag, iggy & the stooges, gray matter and teh sex pistols alot.

I agree. I hate when bands come out and play two and a half minutes songs and say they are punk rock. Just because The Ramones did it doesn't mean they have to. Also anytime they put these rules like this band isn't punk because of this or this band isn't punk because of that. I think of stuff that is actually good punk is more like an art movement. There are similarities but they aren't all trying to sound the same, and its more intresting when bands come out and do thier own thing instead of just trying to sound like "The Clash" or "The Ramones". God forbid you write a five minute song.

So true. I don't really like new punk bands unless it is one of my friends bands. (95% of local bands are nostalgia acts, emo/screamo/"hardcore", or metal)

The Minutemen are punk. Just because it's not mohawks and 100% powerchords doesn't mean it's not punk. Punk is an ideology.

For what it's (not) worth, I can't stand American punk and think British punk is predominantly shit.

It's all about post-punk. Well, actually, it's not, that's shit aswell.

It's all about Bauhaus. There. I said it. Goth music is better than Punk. Well, ok, it's not, but at leasts it's silly rather than retrogressive bollocks masquerading as resistence (So of course Green Day are punk, they're the punkest of them all...)
