You're all cracked
I've decided, after reading the "Most Overrated Bands of All Time" thread, that either I or the entire collective board has gone utterly insane.
Who has been playing you music? Are you hopelessly intoxicated/ingesting hallucinogenics during your aural education? Who has warped you so? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE TRAVESTIES OF IGNORANCE?? I've developed a full-body twitch, and have been rendered (nearly) speechless. THIS is why I post in "Ass" threads. It's the only time any of this makes any sense! Is it me? Have I gone off the deep end? Am I imagining this entire forum? If I've gone crazy, I hope that means I get good hair like Winona. |
There is no forum.
You are really imagining it. |
yah
wtf is this giving hip priest the right to represent me. talk about overrated posts  |
Then go, speak against these blasphemers, assert your sanity!
I still think Hip Priest is a peach. He's just a bit loopy is all. |
I didn't even open that one.
Too much potential for aggravation and grandiose statements.. |
I won't sleep for a week.
|
Sleep is for pansies anyway.

Who you callin' a pansy, bitch?

He's not sleeping, is he?

this is all an experiment created by the government.

I should've fuckin' known, as soon as I found that dart in my ass yesterday. |
Actually, I did that.

ahh, my point exactly about you being so much more preoccupied with genres and overratedness/underratedness
just listen to the music, you like it cool, so what if everybody or nobody likes it |
You should've warned me, I would've put on something nicer.

I'm not preoccupied with either of those things - I'm preoccupied with people who can so tragically mistaken in their appreciation of music. I've got no qualms with what I like or dislike (and I know some of my indulgences are shameful) but when you deny the influence/objective quality of certain bands out there, you're denying HISTORY. |
geez, do you take your word seriously!!!
so what if someone doesn't agree with you?!! |

This isn't my opinion - this is fact. I don't expect everyone, in any circumstances to agree with me. I'm just baffled as to how there is even a debate on certain issues. Can anyone say Jimmy Page was a bad guitar player? Can anyone say Nirvana was not one of the first grunge bands to really hit the mainstream? Can anyone say the White Stripes weren't one of the first 'modern' bands (when I say that, I mean in the last couple of years) to revive garage rock? I'm not trying to revive the thread here, or give the above as opinionated gospel. These things aren't my opinion anyhow - they are simple truths, actual events, documented phenomena. I have no qualms with people that don't agree with me. This whole issue isn't about who likes which band and why. It's the acknowledgement of what a band has done by objective criteria, and some people's conclusions just surprise me. |

dude, jimmy page is a horrible guitar player, you don't have to look further than led zeppelin's live recordings. mistakes and muffled notes galore!!! still, not being a technical proficient guitarist, he was still enormously influential and, for people like me, go over him and his mistakes than other, maybe "better" guitarists. not yo mention his work as a songwriter and engineer, he was more groundbreaking in those areas than his guitar playing. that one is true, but then, what's a grunge band? is jane's addiction grunge? Quote:
ok, big misunderstanding caused by rock journalist and critics trying to make the white stripes more than they are. first of all, garage rock never died, big fucking myth!! in fact, the first time "garage rock" became popular is in the early 2000s, garage rock bands, from their beginnings in the 60's (which i might add, yes, they were a couple of bands who had hit singles but it wasn't like a scene or movement; persception-wise, they are little more than one hit wonders) until it's commercial peak a couple of years ago, have always been around playing that kind of music, all around the world. it hasn't hit commercially but that doesn't mean they didn't exist; so the white stripes didn't have anything to revive. secondly, the white stripes were influenced and preceeded by such bands who played garage rock in the 90's like the new bomb turks, the oblivians and of course, the jon spencer blues explosion. among billions of others all around the world. perhaps what people are confusing are facts and influence with recognition (too much recognition for overrated, too little for underrated) and i guess that's what's driving you crazy i commented in here since you brought it and you were talking about facts. well, here are the facts. |
