coņo i knew he had emphysema from the smoking but did not expect these news today at all

he'll be sorely missed. fuuuuuck

choc e-Claire 01.16.2025 09:08 PM

We know it was coming for a while, but it's rough seeing it happen abruptly during these fires in Los Angeles. I've only seen a couple of his films so far, but his reputation towers over the modern world and he'll only grow as an icon.

He was such a great and positive presence in this dumpsterfire of a world we're living in. Now he's gone too. Fuck 2025.

R.I.P.

I'm feeling a bit fucked. It seems the emphysema and having to relocate to avoid the LA wildfires was too much.

"'There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, 'Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.' It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.'"

The Soup Nazi 01.18.2025 01:04 AM

Steven Spielberg: "I loved David's films. Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive and Elephant Man defined him as a singular, visionary dreamer who directed films that felt handmade... The world is going to miss such an original and unique voice. His films have already stood the test of time and they always will."

Ron Howard: "#RIPDavidLynch, a gracious man and fearless artist who followed his heart & soul and proved that radical experimentation could yield unforgettable cinema."

Nicolas Cage: "A singular genius in cinema, one of the greatest artists of this or any time... He was brave, brilliant, and a maverick with a joyful sense of humor. I never had more fun on a film set than working with David Lynch. He will always be solid gold."

Kyle MacLachlan: "David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human. He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath... While the world has lost a remarkable artist, I've lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own."

It's sad he died the way he did.

I also think he had become a bit of a sacred cow whose best work was quite far behind him. Being a schill for a money grubbing cult was lame. And casting yourself as an old man that young women can't keep their hands off was also lame.

apparently he was smoking since he was 8 lol

also was a massive sugar fiend

anyway thanks for that quote

the reason i feel like a friend has died was not because his work, which will endure time, but because of his interviews about art and his work habits and the creative process and generally "words of advice for young people" to paraphrase bill burroughs

so to me he felt more like an eccentric i liked than just a maker of things

i mean little things like this, i love that they exist

oh but this one, i really like this. he's in his studio working on paintings, smoking, reminiscing, his kid is around, it's either a very good documentary or maybe i just like him

Not quite. Episode 8 of the third series of Twin Peaks shows someone still intent on experimenting with their art and coming up with fantastic results.

Toilet & Bowels 01.19.2025 07:52 PM

That's one episode out of a 20-something episode series. I don't remember which one that is though, is it the one with the orb? I watched that series when it was new, and it was fine. Sometimes I feel like I ought to watch it again to see if I get more out of it on a second viewing, and then I wonder if I would even contemplate watching that series again if it had been made by some rando.

yeah it's a weird meme lol. boot to the head was originally a canadian thing or something. i first heard the boot to the head song on the dr. demento show as a recording, and ages later youtube showed me the video of the reading of the will. but now searches show this as the template for many boots to the head. i hope the mutations never cease

anyway, here a little laugh

https://youtu.be/Tp_sH1etJME

im not a fan of that show but those are 30 good seconds

I have another documentary recorded called Lynch/Oz, but in the meantime there is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXZucsLNmU4

I found Lara Flynn Boyle's words really cute:
“There goes the true Willy Wonka of filmmaking. I feel like I got the golden ticket getting a chance to work with him. He will be greatly missed.”
