Why Do You Post on SYG?? (the best SY Zine in the world)
 

I've been here since June 2004. Why do I post here for ten years now??

Firstly:

(a) I've never had an in-depth conversation about Sonic Youth outside of either a Sonic Youth live show or here on Sonic Youth Gossip forum, and I've been listening to this band since 1995 and seeing them live since 1999..

(b) I learn about Sonic Youth side projects, b-sides, rarities, art, events, and biography as if SYG were a BAD ASS FUCKING SONIC YOUTH ZINE...

(c) I also get find great tech tips and inspiration for my own guitars and equipment. SYG members taught me how to do repairs and how to hot rod or customize my shit, especially how to experiment with wiring, component parts, and set ups.

(d) SYG has introduced me to a dozen new bands I otherwise would have never discovered, and also helped me form an opinion about a hundred others I don't really listen to but wanted to know about, again as if SYG were just a BAD ASS ZINE..

(e) To check out what other local bands and artists are doing all over the country and even all over the world. We started sharing angelfire pages, moved on to Myspace, dabbled with BandCamp, and now are in the SoundCloud era..

(f) For bootlegs and download links from all over the interwebbs..

(g) Because LeeIsFree quoted me twice and Jim pm'd me ;)

(h) Who else honestly would give a fuck about my stories of chatting with Steve and Lee about sneaking into Sonic Youth shows, camping out for tickets for secret record release shows, or the Grateful Dead..?

(i) To troll destructively with memes.. In fact, many of y'all will remember that I've been doing that since before memes even existed, I discovered memes google searching for pictures to post meme style like I've always done..

(j) I feel like many of y'all are my friends. I've known several of you for ten years, some of y'all have met me at shows. We have accomplishments to celebrate, and losses to mourn (RIP atsonicpark!!!).. Honestly I miss like ten people as it is and love my memories of posting with them..

I think I just got too comfortable here....

but seirously....I had some cool exchanges with people. It's nice to talk to people who have the same interest in SY as me and I've learned a lot from this place,especially with music. and some of you guys are cool peoples....actually all you guys are some cool cats...


oh and of course...sonic gossip.

1) SY are my favorite band and I don;t have anyone in my life who I can talk to about them besides the usual "Hey, Rob, what's up with you and Sonic Youth lately?"

2) I have always wanted pen pals who liked to discuss the same area of music/art/film/literature that I frequent.

3) Because I find out about new bands since all my friends started having babies about 10 years ago and their social life/free time/leisure time died.

4) Because I would rather know about what the 200 or so people who frequent SYGossip are up to, in life as well as creatively, than anything on TV or the news, or the celebrities we are supposed to be focused on.

5) Because I need a place to ramble on about everything without actually forcing people to sit and listen.

6) Because Kim needs me to de-Thurston her Sonic Vagina.

Old times sake/I can't help it/it's kind of fun a weird way now that it's sort a ghost town

There aren't many places where you can chat to the same people about Luis Suarez and Kenneth Anger.

i was going to answer "out of habit" because in part it's true but there are many habits i've forgotten

the truth is i like some people here and also i like the old internet way of things so i'm not going to be on facebook.

easy. noone in my life digs the shit i dig.

- It lead me to dimeadozen, which lead me to Built to Spill

- It helps me not to lose the way I am able to write in English in a proper manner

- There aren't too many people in real life around me digging music more than I do; I don't feel like a freak being here, considering I don't even go that much to shows

- Several shared interests with some of you guys

- Meeting boarders at shows in Paris and London was really really nice

- It's a kind of habit too and it looks like a real community (Adam's passing for instance)

for purely selfish reasons.

All of you are cooler than I am, but you still let me sit at the same table for lunch!

It's all groovey man! As long as you share some of dat shrimp you be postin'.

I've never even heard Sonic Youth.

I was interested in Ethiopia and someone told me to check out suchfreind's posts. Guess I haven't really left.

I like some people who post on here, habit and I like to share music-related things with like-minded people who may be interested.
