Best Steve beats
Steve is a great drummer here's some songs I like to listen to him rock out to.
Teenage Riot Stones White Cross Silver Rocket Kool Thing Tom Violence Youth Against Fascism Eric's Trip New Hampshire Plastic Sun Schizophrenia Rain On Tin Shadow Of A Doubt Dirty Boots 100% Washing Machine Mildred Pierce Rock on Steve |
My all time favorite of Steve is probably Silver Rocket....he is the man.
New Hampshire, Titanium Expose.
I dont like Steve on Death Valley 69, Bob was more agressive on drums there.. imo |
"Titanium Expose"
PAttern Recognition
Sleeping Around |
Oh, & "Pacific Coast Highway". Especially live
Pipeline / Kill Time
I like the rattle in dirty boots
bit off topic but my favourite drumming in a sonic youth song isnt by steve - i dreamed i dream has the most awesome drumming
Yeah the rattle kicks to in Sunday and Bull In The Heather
"Sister", one of the greatest drumming albums of all-time.
Stereo Sanctity and Catholic Block
I'm listening to "Sister" right now, & everytime I hear it, I get blown away.
Like I said, Steve does a great job on "Pacific Coast Highway" live. Another good one is "Paper Cup Exit" |
Yeah I also hesitated between stereo sanctity and catholic block.... since it's been said already, i'll say Anagrama
Pipeline
the whole Sister album is great for drumming. |
silver rocket is as good as it gets for me
:-) |
"Starpower" is a pretty good one to.
Yeah Sister is great for drumming so is Goo Dirty and Daydream Nation they be some bad ass beats
i really love his work on syr1, he totally kept the whole thing in check, as well as in parts of karenology. as for a specific song, unfortunately my fave sy drumming is by richard edson...the burning spear.
the sprawl is bezerkoid
Steve is da man, a true inspiration for me... can't point out a single song, love everything... I like the way he handled TRILOGY off DDN, I love the stuff from DIRTY, JC especially... he shines on A THOUSAND LEAVES... he goes weird on NYCG&F... he's da man, period.

Although Sister is one of my favorite albums period I remember Steve saying he was dissatisfied with the drum sound on sister. He thought it was too low in the mix, which i kind of agree with. Anyway some of my favorite songs with steve on drums: cross the breeze (it blew my mind the first time i heard it) titanium expose pattern recognition silver rocket Genetic pacific coast highway schizophrenia (great way to start the album with his drum beat) Rain King No Queen Blues |

i cant believe this wasnt said earlier. |
Death To Our Friends!!!
I know what you mean about Sister's drum sounding not as good as it could have. The toms shounded like shit when he was playing them.
It's strange nobody talked about White Cross, Steve is really great on it, live :)
Silver Rocket is fantastic too |
everything. |
Death To All Our Friends was a good jam to

Hell yeah, Steve is a fucking madman on White Kross. And that short instrumental breakdown bit of Teenage Riot where it's just one chord for a few seconds -- he's crazy. Steve's amazing. Now imagine him with a beard... |
I always liked his performance on Paper Cup Exit. Right around 4:10, when they break into noise where the second part of the chorus would be, and there's like 30 seconds of awesome drum fills... good stuff.
the best steve beat is unmade bed. How he EQ's his drums is also vital. Esepcially on a track like Schizophrena
Schizophrenia, Stereo Sanctity, Skip Tracer, Plastic Sun, Genetic
this is tough. He's such a dead on drummer. His tempo is metronomic. |
all of WM and ATL. his best. + SYR1.
Very power jazz with lots of fills IMO. just wow. |
and Stereo Sanctity and all th generally fast tracks on Sister.
becuz
"Nevermind (What Was It Anyway?)" is great latter-day Steve. But "Stereo Sanctity," "Death to our Friends," "Dirty Boots" and "Cross the Breeze" are the foundation. True too about SYR 1. He is the anchor.
i think "beauty lies in the eye" is one of my fav steve moments. very effective drumming.
the break beat on 100%.
