I wanna buy an iPad.
Advice, please?...what do you think? Pros and cons?
|
Never heard of it. Some kind of tampon thing?
|
Quote:
no, a tampon goes in, a pad stays out. some people believe pads are gross, but unlike tampons they carry no risk of toxic shock syndrome have you got your red wings? blood = AIDS |
Quote:
the question is: why? what do you wanna get out of it? huh? |
My red wings? Is that when you eat out/fuck/finger a chick on her period?
All I'm going to say is, there's no such thing as a grace period. |

and that's the correct answer for 100 points |

Well, because sometimes I want to be online (such as check the SYG board) when I'm nowhere near a computer. Or listen to muzac. Or store videos or photos. And so on. It's a luxury but a very kewl one. Haha....iPad = tampon. Bloody funny. |

well... an ipad IS a computer. you mean not a desktop thing? then i prefer a laptop. i love typing. it's soothing. and it does so many more things. and for storage, i like redundant network storage, preferrably fireproof. or shit like mozy--somewhere in orbit. on the other hand, if you just wanna do dumb shit like update your facebook profile and fill up the thing with $2.99 apps, it might just be the thing for you. i'd rather spend the $500 on cocaine and hookers, but that's just me. ps- this is my ipad ![]() comes in all sizes. isn't it lovely? |
I've been thinking about getting an iPod Touch. I've lost interest in trying to get a cell phone here but carrying around a laptop just to skype, web browse, and read is annoying.

skype works well in the ipod touch w/ the added benefit (for some) of no video the web thingy is ok too. plus: audiobooks. plus: Xtreem cheepness vs. the kPax (esp. refurbed) |
I'm getting an iPod classic as a gift soon. Normally I'd oppose getting a piece of technology like that, but considering I'll have to take the train for 2 hours everyday soon, 160gb of music could possibly cure that boredom.
|
DOn't be opposed to technology! That's bad!
Consumerism! Good! |
IPad the con has to be that the majority of cool apps aren't free. I was thinking of one for my Dad because he's such an avid reader but you have to buy the books. If it had more free apps I'd be for it. Also if you can wait 1 year it will probably be half the price it is now.
|
i would say wait for a few more generations to come out that way the problems of the first one will be ironed out. personally i don't see the point in them and would rather have an actual small laptop with a keyboard. they just seem like over glorified i phones.
|
|
Well they can be used as powerful work tools. Once yamaha and digidesign finish writing their apps i will be able to tune my pa's and monitor wedges from the auditoriums i work in and on the stages. Gandma lighting consoles can be programmed via the ipad as well as a lot of the strand consoles. also i can get my system calibration software for ipad so this would dramatically lighten my luggage when travelling with my work kit. As well as all that I usually travel a few cookbooks with me so I will be able to scan and PDF them and use in iBooks which is a great app.
They can be powerful tools if you have good uses for them, but as a computer they are a bit shit. I'm thinking about buying one though for the above reasons. |

one of my coworkers has used his 2 hr commute to listen to lectures on his ipod and he is getting his certificate from Cisco for their next gen networks - he'll be one of a handful in the country - he can name his price. He's a very motivated guy. |

I think a lot of people understimate its potential qualities in a lot of "fields". Still, people who buy it "cozitzkewlandI'mrich" are stupid. but it's more useful than most people think. This whole reasoning is valid for a lot of "tech stuff" ha ha. I suck. |

you do know that they only exist for 40 year olds who grew up before personal computers were in every home and office and think that by spending 700+ on one of these things their life will merge with the advertising realm and take on the vacuity and twattishness therein and they will for one brief expensive moment labour under the illusion they have staved off the darkness and have the first clue about what this modern world is and how you put your photos onto your facebook and what a facebook is and your your face gets in the book?
in fact it has been proven the only people who actually own ipads are inexplicably wealthy, clean and toned models who spend their days in sleek big city media business firms not actually doing any work just posing in various multi racial scenes with blank pieces of paper and happy and hard working expressions on their faces. these people spend their nights in expensive wine bars with no knowledge of their own names and instead of speaking merely observe their mouths spouting advertising gibberish. they are essentially phantoms and must be hunted down and vacuumed. there is no reason to buy one of these expensive pieces of shit unless you are rich and can afford to waste money on something not as good as a good laptop or as useful as a small phone. arent they like 700 or something? if you have that kind of money get a top of the line computer. if you want a phone, get a cheap fake iphone from japan on ebay for like 40-50. you can put your pdfs on it. if you want an e reader, get a kindle. but ipads are just pointless. if they were 20quid id buy one. |
Now that you make me think about this, the guy on HAFS cover would look good with an ipad in his hands.
|
Well as I said before if you are in technical disciplines they can be awesome.
This lighting cosole industry standard these days... ![]() Can run events of this size ![]() And can be programmed and operated by this ![]() Although the ipads will disappear in the next 5 years as they become superceded right now they enable a freedom in the technical production disciplines which is a good thing. Wow, guys, you convinced me to steer clear of those bastards. I appreciate the enlightening info. BTW, I'm a teacher, not by any means wealthy.
Everyone I know has a laptop and they use it constantly. A laptop just seems too practical for me. Anyway, I alreadyu have a desktop. Next question...is there a difference between a Smart phone and an iPhone? What about the one you have? Do ya like it/does it suck? What features are worth having? My current phone is from the Flintstones era. |
I'm on my ipohone right now. They're great. Oh yeah and the iPhone is a smartphone. I don't have many apps...I had it jailbroken and updated it and just erased everything. But it's just a mobile Internet device. And I just bought the 3g for 100 bucks and figured it was cheap for an iPhone. Oh and ya also need to get the Internet service too..
|
you can buy iphone imitations called i9 off ebay - prob about 30-50dollars. plus it will be unlocked.

What does it mean to be "unlocked"? |

an iphone is a smartphone. in other words a little computer. there are all kinds that go with all sorts of different networks. last i read (somewhere i don't recall), the droid has been outselling the iphone for the past 6 months (and it works on verizon, and has flash, etc). i wouldn't want a smart phone. i don't want to have email following me everywhere. i answer email twice a day. otherwise it's a huge timesuck. also, there are the "data charges " (about $40/mo) that you have to pay ON TOP of your cellphone bill. i have the cheapest cellphone ($25) and it's a prepay. when at home/ office, i just call w/ google voice (for free) and when im out i have no need to be constantly twattering about my whereabouts, so the prepay suffices. if you wanna try the "joys" of a smartphone without the monthly overpays and without the ipad pricetag get yourself an ipod touch. you could get the cheapest one of the line (8Gb, $229) and don't let the aple store twats give you the upsell-- it's what they are trained to do. but don't jump into this yet. because, as an educator, you *might* get a discount-- those are generally for computers + applecare, but every now & then it's possible to get cheeper toys: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/findyourschool and finally: apple sells refurbished products in their website. they are a little bit hidden but you can find them. the beauty of this is that besides being cheaper, they come w/ the same 1yr warranty as the new ones. refurbs for teh win: http://store.apple.com/us/search?fin...co=MTA4MTQ4MzQ sweet deal here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB...co=MTY3ODQ5OTY $149 instead of $229 that's the perfect trial balloon for your ambitions. they come w/ wifi, itunes, you can get the same crummy apps, bookface, and everything that the iphone has except for the AT&T-tethered line+ the stoophid data charges. monthly obligations are the fastest road to financial slavery. oh and i dont know anything about the knockoffs btw |

when it's "unlocked" you can use it with any phone service as long as it as a sim card. |

which is great if you're equipped to live fast & loose, but unlocking a $600 iphone will void the warranty and then if something fucks up you have a nice $600 paperweight. i wouldn't unlock an iphone when there's droid. but then again i don't want a smartphone and i don't want friendface and i don't want twatter. i just want free porn. |
