Is Anyone Buying the Ipad?
|
I said I hate that there are no usb ports, but I probably wouldn't buy one anyway. That said, the only things keeping it from being really cool are that it his no cd/dvd drive, usb port, flash, and multi-tasking. If it had those it could be really cool

Giant iPhone...no thanks.
|
giant iphone minus the phone... tp's quick review PIECE OF SHIT
|
i reserve the right to mock anyone using an ipad in a public space

i'm actually looking forward to seeing that. the thought alone makes me chuckle |

hell no!
concept okay, execution not. |

|
I keep on thinking about it as a thing you'd bring around in your home.
If you had a big home. |

yeah, like an overdue macbook pro refresh, for fucks sakes |
a lot of ya'll need to lighten the fuck up.... jus' sayin'
Apple makes the best phone available to date.... it's a huge success (whether it's not cool enough for you or not). That means people love it. It has become a favorite mainly in part to the limitless apps. yeah, the iPad is basically a bloated iPhone..... but dig deep into your imaginations and imagine that there may be a market for people who amuse themselves with their slew of apps and want to have something more realistic in size in the mean time, not to mention just to sit and browse web with a touch screen. I think the iPad is more limited than it's worth, but aside from that, it's a step in a forward direction to what computers can and will be, especially with the touch screen stuff. Companies have designed apps to expand the iPhone / Apple designed the iPad to expand apps.... it's pretty simple if you think about it. It's just happening. In a way too, Apple has a choke hold on their stuff with the uniquely coded apps for these things, so that could be worth bitching about.... but so the fuck what, at least their shit works and isn't a fraction as bad as the malicious coding involved in everything Windows. If the world evolved at the taste of some of the posters here.... it'd be a pretty primitive and negative place. BTW, I'm not in the least interested in buying an iPad (at any point), but sheeesh, I'm not mad that they're making it... and furthermore, won't have violent thoughts towards anyone I see using one |
^ ....
the iPad is still fucking retarded and a waste. They could've at least installed an actual OS on there. |

It's called a laptop... and they start at $1000, not $400. When they actually take it to that step, you will be bitching that they cost over $1000, no? ...and that they're raping the public? I wonder what clever insight you had say about their announcement of the iPhone's as well? I only wish they could have had you're review before they invested the millions in this one that's sure to tank! |
I'd rather have a Kindle.
|
We're all going to own one some day - although some of you will own the knock-offs that will be contributed back to Apple.
|
i'm going to say i love the ipad even though i have no use for one nor can i afford one. but because 'hating it' is the new thing. and i want to be cool

i'll finally go neo-luddite if that's how things go |
You think iPads wont be standard in 20 years, or even 10 years time?
8-track users in the 70s would have said the same thing about digital music. I personally think I'll always prefer a hard copy of literature, but I was once against downloading music too, which is how I get most of my music these days. Books in the future will become antiques and secondhand bookstores will go ramped and charge obscene prices for things you buy today. Even libraries are starting to move into online-digital lending, and you've been able to 'borrow' films online for awhile now. It's the way of the future. I wont be buying one just yet, but I will most likely embrace them fully in the future. |
i think the ipad is more in line with 8 tracks and betamax and that sort of shit
|
ipads circa today will be obsolete within a few years. technology is constantly evolving.
|
iPads won't be obsolete, this current model will be though.

Once they get a proper OS and also proper ports on that hardware....I thnk it'll be more useful...but I don't see my self getting one of the current models.. |
I'd get one if I were rich and I bought stuff on the basis of it being a cool idea. But alas, that's not the case.

Exactly. I was able to play with one at Bes Buy on Saturday. No thanks, I'll stick to my laptop. Apple can suck it. Perhaps it's open source competitors will be more impressive. |

the Tampon Droid? looking forward to that |
i don't really know anything about them, if they have no dvd drive, no usb ports, etc, what are the advantages of an ipad over a laptop?

you have to go through Steve to get your movies! basically you're a captive audience for the itunes store funny, that 1984 apple ad |

It's primarily for the use of digital literature etc, which is a bit advanced for these times anyways. Well that's the adverts I've seen of it anyway. Instead of buying a book in hardcopy, you'll buy a digital book and read it on an iPad, aswell as general browsing of the net. There's much more use than just this, but I think that's been the main spin. They keep being compared to laptops but they're meant for different purposes, even though you can do everything on a laptop as you can on an iPad, but they're also only a quarter of the price than a Macbook. |
Being backlit, the screen of the ipad is quite bad for reading e-books etc.
A decent solution could be inverting the colours, making the pages' background black and letters white. It would also cut a bit the power draw. I see it as a big portable thing to use at home, instead of carrying around a laptop to write something or browse the net, emails etc. not much more. the lack of flash support is horrid, it cuts out a good portion of the whole internet experience. if you drool over useless (but admittedly funny/interesting in some cases) apps it could be worth buying if you had some spare money. along with this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/iCade.shtml |
designed obsolescence
DRM the sensitive electonics in the explosion of these person devices - mobile phones, mp3 players, ereaders - as well as more common electronics are made from minerals sourced from the Congo. The mines are commonly controlled by the rebel militias or the army, often worked under conditions of human rights abuses or just plain slave labour, and the profits fund their unending war. the dubious recycling of these personal electronic devices (and ordinary computers it should be pointed out), if they're recycled at all and not just thrown into a landfill which is another issue all together, in China is also abhorrent: over a fire or hotplate with a grill placed over it the circuit boards are held so the solder melts and the parts shaken lose. This is done by hand and workers are directly inhaling the toxic fumes. |

the business model you endorse says you don't own the right to anything. You own the right to use it. So Amazon.com o Apple can without permission remotely delete your stuff. You'll pay just as much, but own nothing. Its "Cloud Consuming". It amazes me that no one questions anything. Its got to be the flouride in the water. I pointed out to a coworker the headlines on the free newspaper today : celebrity Sex tapes, David Barton planted story, and of course Tiger Woods. The world is falling apart but this is what the Elite wants you to think about. GOOD SLAVE. |
