The Zombies movies thread

This one goes out to truncated, for our mutual love of "Zombie Flesh Eaters/Zombie"

So them, SY boardies, what's yer fave zombie movie? Recommends/reminiscences all welcome.

Go!

girlgun 07.27.2008 03:29 PM

zombies aren't scary! pFFFFT! they move too slow!

acousticrock87 07.27.2008 03:31 PM

Oh man. I have a bunch of them that I've never watched, and I don't know the names of the ones I have.

noisereductions 07.27.2008 03:33 PM

Definitely RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD.

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 03:34 PM

My faves:

Plague of the Zombies (1960's Hammer films greatness)
Night Of The Living Dead
Dawn Of The Dead
The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (total atmosphere)
Zombie Flesh Eaters
Zombie Holocaust (aka Dr Butcher MD) - hilariously bad!

demonrail666 07.27.2008 03:39 PM

I'd go for

Night ot Living Dead
I Walked With a Zombie
Dawn of the Dead
Zombie Flesh Eaters
Plague of the Zombies

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 03:49 PM

demonrail - I've not seen "I Walked With A Zombie". Who directed that one?

demonrail666 07.27.2008 04:00 PM

Jacques Tourneur. Very different to the post Hammer ones (Did you know Plague is the first instance of zombies shown crawling from the ground?)

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 04:06 PM

^^^No, I didn't! Will check out said film as soon as I can.

demonrail666 07.27.2008 04:07 PM

I Walked is real class. Watched late at night when you're really tired it can really become quite creepy.

noisereductions 07.27.2008 04:10 PM

I really only like 80's Zombie movies. Hate, hate, hate like the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake and that shit.

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 04:10 PM

Re Zombie Flesh Eaters - I've finally realised that I DO look like Ian McCulloch - "as if I would!"

atsonicpark 07.27.2008 05:15 PM

Hmm... the 10 zombie movies I enjoyed the most, for various reasons...

1. City of the Living Dead/Gates of Hell
2. Dead Alive
3. Dead Next Door
4. City of the Walking Dead
5. The Beyond/Seven Doors of Death (yes, those are zombies in it)
6. Dawn of the Dead (original)
7. Let Sleeping Corpses Lie
8. Zombie Holocaust/Dr. Butcher MD
9. Zombi 2/Zombie (the Lucio Fulci film)
10. Night of the Zombies (not the Joel M. Reed one, the one that has all the jungle stock footage)

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 05:20 PM

I forgot about "The Beyond" - good call! ..."Liza!!!"

o'connor 07.27.2008 06:42 PM

i wish zombies were real. so we could have a national zombie reserve and hunt them for sport. that would be tits.

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 06:47 PM

o'connor - I've not heard your stuff yet. Sorry :(.

Bertrand 07.28.2008 02:35 AM

On a light mode, there's a comedy based upon a police story involving at least one zombie.

It's called Dead Heat, and the hero, cop Treat Williams is shot dead, but carries on working to find out who did it. He rots all through the film, by his partner's side. It's got Vincent Price too.

I like :
Dawn of the Dead
Dead Alive (both funny and disgusting)

Have none of you seen this instant Zombie classic? Not only does the gore outdo nearly every other film (i.e. that guy's dick MELTS off), the cast includes Electra and Elise Avéllan, the most sexy exciting ladies ever.

atsonicpark 07.28.2008 09:19 AM

eh it was okay. Better than death proof by thousands of miles though.

Everyone knows the goriest film of all time is dead alive/braindead.

I totally forgot to list Premutos: Lord of the Living Dead in my top 10!

Meh, they are two different films going for two different directions. Planet Terror is about zombie melting BBQ-sauce'n gun-totin' action- Death Proof is a slow burning vehicular homicide thriller with some of the most insane stunts pulled in cinema in like...

..since CGI took over.

I saw this one in the theater when it came out. I love this flick. It's gruesome and hilarious.

Yeah, they're two difference films....

I still think death proof is the worst film I've ever seen in my life.

sarramkrop 07.28.2008 12:58 PM

DeadDiscoDildo 07.28.2008 01:11 PM

Ok Sarram, that's it! THREAD DERAIL WAR!

(I will win) :-P

find true love

acousticrock87 07.28.2008 03:37 PM

Has anyone seen Zombies Gone Wild (or part of it, as I doubt many people have watched it all the way through)? It's so completely and utterly bad that even B-movie fanatics gave it 1/10. I can't decide if it's genius, or just plain terrible.

Makes me think I haven't seen Zombie Strippers either.

Derek 07.28.2008 04:46 PM

I'll be getting Zombi 2 soooooon.

MellySingsDoom 07.28.2008 04:49 PM

Another Italian schlock classic - Umberto Lenzi's "Nightmare City" - the one where the zombies really CAN run. Fave line from film - "What's eating you, then?"

atsonicpark 07.28.2008 04:54 PM

I already said nightmare city... my copy's called city of the walking dead :)

MellySingsDoom 07.28.2008 05:42 PM

Ah right, I didn't realise it was called that. It's well funny, isn't it?

I've just rememberd another one - Andrea Bianchi's "Burial Ground". Utter rubbish, but very funny and inept.

nature scene 07.28.2008 06:16 PM

anybody seen this?

atsonicpark 07.28.2008 07:27 PM

yeah burial ground rules

love the kid who sucks on the mom's tits

MellySingsDoom 07.28.2008 10:50 PM

atsonicpark - I can't make up my mind whether that "kid" really is a kid, or whether he's really a mutant weirdo shortarsed adult. He's well creepy - creepy, and fun!

I'm going to re-watch "The Beyond" over the next week - a great Lucio Fulci film from his golden period.

atsonicpark 07.28.2008 10:56 PM

i think he has the same disease as gary coleman

I'm not even kidding ... I know someone who found him on myspace and told me that.

MellySingsDoom 07.28.2008 11:01 PM

Ah , Gary Coleman *sings theme from "Diff'rent Strokes*

I've just remembered another one "Zombie Creeping Fresh" (US release title - "Night Of The Zombies" - a fairly silly and clunky zombie-fest from Bruno Mattei (whose "best" film seems to be the pretty fucking disturbing "Women's Camp 119",
