Relocating
If you could live with the same standard of living that you currently have but had the opportunity to live anywhere else in the world (bearing in mind that if you currently earn a basic wage you'd earn that place's equiv.) would you consider doing it, and if so where would you ideally go?
I'm on the cusp of completing my PhD and this is becoming a very real option for me: teaching at a university in a foreign country. The world is a very large and exciting place, but where to go? |
if i could afford too i'd move back to key west in a heart beat. or chicago, i've always liked it there as well.
|
I'm really hot on Spain at the moment... just got back from an amazing trip to madrid. But my city of choice would probably be Barcelona.
I would also love to shred it in the Big Apple for a while... |
probably some nice city in sweden, Malmo, maybe even Stockholm.
spain is a really good option too, but I like colder places. Toxic Johnny, do the "cordoba siviglia granada" triplet next time you have the chance to plan a trip to spain, smaller but great cities. |
i'm thinking about relocating
|
it'd be france for me, please. i've always felt very comfortable there. not paris, though, somewhere a bit more provincial.
|
swden is nice but a bit boring, I found. Barcelona is a fantastic city but it just gets so hot. Like Nicfit, I prefer colder climates, but I'm so sick of Europe - the main option for moderate climates - at least in the north.
Because of the language issue, the USA is the obvious choice for me - work wise. New York I love, but I like the idea of somewhere a bit off the usual compass. I'm just so fucking bored with England at the moment. Chicago really appeals to me, despite the fact that I've never actually been there! Although I'm supposed to be giving a conference paper next February at Univ. of Chicago, so that'd be a good way of checking it out. |
japland
|
japland costs a lot they say...
yeah, sweden isn't much exciting, but honestly I don't need a super hyped place, I like calm places with nice spots :D. some nice music clubs over there. |

Actually Nicfit I was planning on visiting Cadiz and Seville next, so I will be in that neck of the woods. I'll look into Cordoba and Granada as well :) |

Yeah, but I'm not sure if I could deal with the culture shock. Something tells me I'd not be that suited to the Japanese mindset. I get the feeling I'd just start embarrasing them all just by saying hello. |
asian's are weird folk. they creep me out sometimes.
|
oooooooooooooooooooooooh yes
I'd be living in New Jersey BUT it's very HIGHLY unlikely let's be realistic i can't do the job i do in NYC |
what do you do greedrex?
|
I teach English hahahahahaha
Amercans don't need me to learn English, do they? |
wholeheartedly.
|
japan, south korea or china.
|
New York, for sure.
|
yokohama or berlin for me
|
Quote:
That's debatable. |

the culture shock i got when i went to japan wasn't as much as i was expecting, i had a bigger culture shock in america possibly because i wasn't expecting any. |
I think is funny that Europeans look at Americans as philistines.

well you did invent TNA Wrestling & Juggalos |
Well Europeans are not that far off anymore. All I hear is you guys bitching at the sad state you guys are heading.
|
Wrestling sucks ass.
|
it'll be a long time before europe can come up with anything the trumps juggalos
|
You guys did create the Beckhams.

http://www.hillviewhome.com/villas/awash/index.htm ABYATA ABYSSINIA AWASH DALOL FELWEHA LALIBELA LUCY SOFOMER SHALA RAS DASHEN GHION HORA ![]() ![]() ![]() however, while my brother Jazzy Naphtli is living in Nafir Silk [addis suburb] in beautiful house much like the one pictured above, the costs in the city are going up while the standrads are going down. essentially, the city has only repaired and maintained about half of its services, leaving much of the city in decline for the past ten years now, as the population swells. even as little as five years ago, Addis Ababa was an entirely different place. there were no black outs, increasing development and construction, proper maintainance of logistical infrastructures, new housing, suburban expansion etc etc, today it is the opposite. increasing black outs from power shortages do to increased demand with inferior production, serious decline in construction, crucial flaws in maintainance, housing has remained steady but as the city drops what is it worth? I am looking at citys like Awash, Nazret, Jimma, Harar, or Dire Damo now, rather then live in Addis, because those same flashy La Jolla homes can be found in all of these much smaller cities. |

oooooh, close. |
Still, Brits export as much trash as they take in.

Yeah, and you guys paid out an absolute fortune so you could come and live with you. Hmmm. To be fair, Britain is in serious decline: the rapid disentegration of the inner cities; violent crime figures spiralling out of control; plummeting education standards; political correctness stifling debate; property prices rising to a level that now excludes a majority of the population from the market. Frankly, unless you're earning way beyond the national average, it's become nigh-on impossible to build any kind of foundations for a comfortable life in Britain. Quote:
What are the chances of getting adequate employment in a city like that? |
Quote:
true, it's going to be interesting to see where this path is going to lead the country to after 20 or 30 years |
It's a cliche, but if I could afford it and I could avoid the hordes of tourists, then Venice would be ideal:

In all honesty, I despair. I dread to think what England will be like in the next ten years. I only hope that I'm not living hear long enough for it to really affect me. It's become a cliche to talk of the country as being finished, but when I look around me, I can't pretend that the cliche may well now have become a reality. |

it's the only city in the US that i will ever live in however, if mccain wins this year's election i will be on the other side of the atlantic ocean so fast. |
Um, I would relocate anywhere as long as it's not in Ontario.

Try Florence. Venice was nice and cool and all but Florence trumped it tenfold. |

hm fuck yeah. i'd go back to dc or else to nueva york. of course it would be fucking hard to rent a 3 bedroom house with a bigass backyard in nueva york, in a pretty central location-- fucker it would even be hard in dc, talking maybe 1 million dollar hard. oh wait, i rent-- still it would be fucking hard. but i digress. okay if i could have a roomy ass penthouse or loft or some such shit yeah i'd move to nueva york right now. or dc. yummy. but i'm liking albuquerque more so i don't know. im having more fun here than ive had elsewhere in years. |
oh wait wait wait no, my location of choice is paris. fuck everything else. paris and a beach house in the cote d'azur. i'd never get on the internet again.
