If you had an hour to live, what album would you listen to?

It's going to come down to this one day. It will be the last album of your life. The last recorded music you'll hear. Ever. The last album cover you'll look at, the last time you'll smell the vinyl.

What will it be?

Glice 09.02.2007 06:31 PM

Hildegaard von Bingen. Anything of hers, doesn't matter. Or perhaps Arvo Part's Miserere. Or Schnittke's Cello concerto. Or maybe just Happy Hardcore.

Something that has either the spirit of deathly misery or hapless ridiculousness. Preferably both at once.

atsonicpark 09.02.2007 06:32 PM

well..

vision creation newsun..

Toilet & Bowels 09.02.2007 06:36 PM

sticky fingers

....only joking!!!

i'd be too pissed off about dying to be able to enjoy any record.

floatingslowly 09.02.2007 06:38 PM

I wouldn't listen to a single album.

I'd make a Death Mix and will it to somebody.

goth.

gmku 09.02.2007 06:39 PM

Actually, I think I might pick Sticky Fingers. I love the first cut, I love Wild Horses, I love how it fades out over a moonlit road. Yeah, could be perfect, especially with just the right drip of morphine in the line.

floatingslowly 09.02.2007 06:39 PM

do you like the rolling stones?

gmku 09.02.2007 06:41 PM

Fuck.

pbradley 09.02.2007 06:42 PM

I think I'd rather call up my family and friends with my cell phone and say goodbye or some shit.

Oh my God, that's boring. You poor schmuck.

pbradley 09.02.2007 06:53 PM

Maybe it's because when I had a close friend die, I kind of wished she would have said goodbye? I don't know.

Maybe I would listen to that week long Solypsis, Nxfxtxex and DEADHORSESEYFUCK noise track and cheat death for a while.

gmku 09.02.2007 06:56 PM

Well, try not to be so sentimental about this. But the plan to listen to a long album is a good one. Maybe I should go with Exile on Main St. instead.

nomadicfollower 09.02.2007 06:58 PM

Piano Starts Here - Art Tatum
To hell with a heel tap and smile.

lust for life

sorry that was a bad pun

the ikara cult 09.02.2007 07:56 PM

Surely you could do Evol on vinyl, the one with the locked groove so Expressway never ends, and hence you live forever!

edit: I obviously neglected to account for the "hour to live" bit... bloody time, always messing with my plans

True. Or with my luck, I'm stuck with that loop playing endlessly all through my bardo of death.

Norma J 09.02.2007 08:16 PM

If I had an hour to live I wouldn't be secluding myself to listen to music.

atsonicpark 09.02.2007 08:32 PM

vs

Everyneurotic 09.02.2007 09:11 PM

i'd record something within that hour instead of listening to something.

Sonic Youth 37 09.02.2007 10:12 PM

Loveless. maybe while smoking a hookah

Cantankerous 09.02.2007 10:13 PM

loveless...damn straight
or perhaps lapsed (bardo pond)

I would say DDN, but it's over an hour. But, Loveless would make passing nice. Kind of like dying in the snow, warm non-melting snow.

Cantankerous 09.02.2007 10:18 PM

here is my final answer
i would listen to loveless, sister, or lapsed and smoke a couple bowls
what a nice way to die

Toilet & Bowels 09.02.2007 11:59 PM

jesus wept, you lot are some melodramatic saps!

gmku 09.03.2007 12:27 AM

Loveless, yeah. Nice choice. If I had time, I'd start with Sticky Fingers, follow that with Evol, and "end it all" with Loveless.

Since I'm not a regular pot smoker, I'd need a quick emergency connection. Cantankerous, could you help me with that?

SynthethicalY 09.03.2007 12:28 AM

I would fuck. I want to go with a bang. Then again It is an hour we speaking. I need more time than that.

gmku 09.03.2007 12:31 AM

That's just it. Plus sex takes energy. In my hour of darkness, I doubt I'll have the stamina.

SynthethicalY 09.03.2007 12:33 AM

But in all seriousness, I would like to listen to a mix that consists of.

Teenage Riot-SY
Watching the Wheels- John Lennon
I Can't Get No Satisfaction- Stones
Why Do They Leave?- Ryan Adams
Sickos- Harlem Shakes
Into the Groovey- Ciccone Youth
Run Run Run- VU

Silent Dan Speaks 09.03.2007 01:08 AM

Neutral Milk Hotel-In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

It's also the cd I'm listening to now, but I think it would fit very nicely.

gmku 09.03.2007 01:09 AM

I might also go for Forever Changes, though.

Cantankerous 09.03.2007 01:13 AM

"heroes"

That would be an incredible album to die to.
Do Make Say Think's "& Yet & Yet" ends quite perfectly how I picture death, a slowly coming and growing and building jam, ending in this repeated fragment of massed beauty, washing over, and eventually fading out into oblivion.

In fact, almost every Do Make Say Think album could be listened to as a last album, they are all equally moving and powerful...

But yes, ITAOTS... that last part of Two-headed Boy part Two... easily one of the most hard to listen to pieces of recorded music. But don't hate her when she gets up to leave.

demonrail666 09.03.2007 01:43 AM

Fuck it, no point in getting all cool and clever if you have an hour to live, so I'll be brutally honest and say either:

or

With daft amounts of:

sonicl 09.03.2007 02:52 AM

If I had an hour to live I wouldn’t have time to listen to music, I’d be too busy shagging the first beautiful woman I saw.

davenotdead 09.03.2007 03:07 AM

i'd be doing coke with

him

and her

and listening to Joanna Newsom's "Swansea" on repeat until my hours up

Onani Nic 09.03.2007 03:48 AM

probably..
Venom- Welcome To Hell

_slavo_ 09.03.2007 04:18 AM

Radiohead's "My Iron Lung" EP twice in a row.
