100 greatest albums of the 80's according to pitchfork
Yea, I've seen it before. DDN is #1. I think I can agree with that... I mean, there might be thing si like better, depeneding on the day, but it's easily the indeal apex of 80s alternative.

Good top 10...
010: Joy Division Closer 009: Public Enemy It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back 008: Tom Waits Rain Dogs 007: Pixies Surfer Rosa 006: The Smiths The Queen Is Dead 005: R.E.M. Murmur 004: Pixies Doolittle 003: Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique 002: Talking Heads Remain in Light 001: Sonic Youth Daydream Nation |
I wouldn't have put two pixies albums on the top 10 though. I think a top ten should really show they variety of the decade. The rest of the list is good. Anyway, I was disappointed that Bad Moon Rising didn't make it.
Yeah, it actually is.
One question I have: How does Meat Puppets - Up On The Sun beat Meat Puppets II by like 20? |
Murmur kicks ass.
Yeah Murmur is great.....so is REM.
yea, they did a good job with the 90s list too. DDN rules.
Hmm, The Whitey Album should be on.
its a pretty good list, needs bleach though
acually, the 90s list sucks |
A piece of shit list. Pixie's fucking love affair and no Throwing Muses or Suzanne Vega.
i'm just glad to see some they might be giants on there! i'm one hundred percent accordian-core until the day i die!
it's too soon... well, maybe was, too soon to have a truly awesome 90's list.
I'm glad television personalities was on the list. I got into them from that list. It's a really out of place album for 1981 |
Not a bad list. I haven't heard a lot of the records from about 50 - 100, but I'd add NIN's pretty hate machine (that was 89 I think).
Yarr. Nice to see the Fall and Prince in the top 20. Although in a just world the top three would contain The Fall, half man half biscuit and purple rain, but we can't always get what we want, can we?
Good to see Duran Duran there, but the only reason for picking 'Rio' above 'Duran Duran' or 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' is 'Save a Prayer' (a very good reason). The other two are better LP's, and 'Seven and the Raagged Tiger' in particular has a grandiose pop majesty that cannot be denied ('Tiger Tiger', New Moon on Monday', 'Union of the Snake').
What? There's no Swans album?
Quote:
Top would be 'A Secret Wish' by Propaganda. THen The Fall and SOnic Youth. NO place for either of the GAye Bykers on Acid's classics, 'Drill Your Own Hole' and 'Stewed to the Gills'? Bah, humbag and balderdash. And not enough Public Enemy on the list. Quote:
IN many cases the LP's picked are by the right bands, but I think are the wrong LP's. So you're right. |
I've got these
prince - dirty mind pixies - come on pilgrim big black -songs about fucking beastie boys - licensed to ill dino jr - living all over me stone roses - s/t eno&byrne - life in bush of ghosts SY - sister The Fall - saving grace Public enemy - a nation of 1000000s tom waits - rain dogs pixies - surfer rosa pixies - doolittle sy - Daydream nation thought I would have had more than that no melvins?! |
They can't get every single band that released an album on the list...
