Isn't that the motto of EVERY SINGLE PERSON who ever immigrated to Australia before? |
^^^ hahahaha yeah...
my brother in law's great grandfather was sent here for stealing a straight razor and a loaf of bread. OFF YOU GO!! Quote:
while discussing this last night, my wife told me that she called the boy a "dumbshit" the other day. "dumbshit" isn't a term of endearment too, is it? I'm livid. he's 10 1/2 months old, and well-able to comprehend what's being said to him, even if "dumbshit" is just now entering his lexicon. typically, I would never discuss this much of "real life" here, but I'm losing it. I can't really FaceSpace this shit, because of family, and there's really no-one else to talk to. sorry for the venting. I've been up since 5am looking for jobs in Brisbane. I could use some communal magic. wish me well. |

I've been tempted to play up the Native American thang, but they think aboriginals are "black people" here.
there are NO black people here. also: in order of fairness, I need to state that the person whom I am dealing with is not the person that I've known. my son loves his 'Nin, she is often very good to him and is obviously dealing with a burgeoning mental collapse/disease/disunion/disorder/derangement/mixup/mixup/mixup. I fear one day my wife will face the same, but luckily, for me at least, I'll be long dead. |
I just realized I somehow forgot to have dinner.

I don't think Sonic Youth (not that improv/ free whatever stuff their members sometimes do) have been influential on interesting bands in at least a decade.

Just seen the Channel 4 Dispatches "Hunted" documentary on homophobia in Russia. Am angry and depressed in equal measure. Fucking hell.

no worries dear; vent away. its unhealthy to keep everything inside. and as long as this place can still be somewhat disconnected from rest of social media, thats a good thing. wishing you well. |

its because the sounds have changed- probably. and theirs remained the same, which isnt always a bad thing.. but honestly i never had them in my head as being that influential, rather than very good promoters of bands, who otherwise would remain unknown. and i love them for that. ![]() |
I was drunk when I wrote that. Yes, they did influence some good bands in the past decade but not that many. When I go through the records I've been buying for the past 7/8 years, none of those bands seem to like or be influenced by Sonic Youth much.
|
thats a good thing, no?
we need 'new' sounds etc. |
yes, absolutely. not saying that in a negative way.

TOKYO (Reuters) - The operator of Japan's wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant knew about record high measurements of a dangerous isotope in groundwater at the plant for five months before telling the country's nuclear watchdog, a regulatory official told Reuters. Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) said late on Wednesday it detected 5 million becquerels per liter of radioactive strontium-90 in a sample from a groundwater well about 25 meters from the ocean last September. That reading was more than five times the broader all-beta radiation reading taken at the same well two months earlier. It will soon be Cancer-fornia. |

Yep. Immigrated with my Aussie wife and half-breed son about five months ago.
Living in country Vic at the moment, but have eyes for Brisbane. It gets cold down here. |

Awesome. How are you finding it? Earlier when you mentioned someone said silly poofta I instantly thought it sounded very Australian but didnt bother asking. Any plans on a road trip to Perth? |
I think that I'll like it a lot better once I've found a job and exited my mother in law's house...
country vic is a little bit like "what if the UK shat out Texas??". I'd love to go to Perth, as I've heard it's beautiful, but it's a awfully long way away. we just bought tickets for a 2 week NSW train pass and plan to take it up to Brissy this week. the change will do me good. |

Yeh I think once you are out of your mother in laws place you will feel a lot more comfortable. Is this your first time in Australia? It is a pretty great place. Sucks how far Perth is away from the rest of Australia but it is what it is. |
I was here three years ago, before taking my wife back to America with me. we lived in Austin for awhile, but figured it be best for our son to bring him back here.
I love Melbourne, but I think we're both open to "somewhere else" if the opportunity arises. so far, only the cunt at Aussie Disposal was an obvious American-hater. all I had to do was open my mouth and let the Texifornia-drawl roll out. |
