Eliot scares me. He was too smart for his own good. Like Borges, but human.

nah. he was a bit of a snob, but he's perfectly accessible.

Cantankerous 06.25.2008 01:40 PM

eliot as in TS eliot?

give it a read.

✌➬ 06.25.2008 01:40 PM

Oh, now that I have summer off I am going to read Borges. Well I'm off to the beach.

acousticrock87 06.25.2008 01:40 PM

Accessible, yes. But I have a strong feeling that there was no encyclopedia sitting next to him when he wrote. It was just all there. Trying to imagine his process is too much.

My favorite Poem is The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.

then don't take the process into consideration
just read it and enjoy it

just out of curiosity, when's your birthday? you strike me as a bit neurotic.

acousticrock87 06.25.2008 01:43 PM

Borges at the beach? Now there's an idea. Look up every once in a while so the sun doesn't get too dark.

in terms of erudition, both pound and borges blow him out of the water.

then again you have to realize that this is probably all he knew-- ask him anything about astrophysics and he would have probably stared at you with his mouth open.

in any case--intelligence in a writer, it's a good thing. that's why we read them. who has time for stupid writers? oh yeah, kerouac fans...

✌➬ 06.25.2008 01:44 PM

I only liked several Kerouac Fans, to me he was the least talented.

Cantankerous 06.25.2008 01:46 PM

you guys should read allen ginsberg. not jack kerouac. if you're going the beat writer route. william burroughs can be terribly boring.

Hah, neurotic? Never gotten that before, but I would say a little, yes. What's my birthday got to do with it, though?

And the reason he scares me is that writing is potentially my career at the moment, and when I read people like that it's like John Keats at the Elgin Marble. I'm not that smart, and it's a bit intimidating.

Rob Instigator 06.25.2008 01:48 PM

I have never been entertained by burroughs. I have been intrigued, and perturbed, and bored, and irritated, but never entertained or enlightened.

when a dipshit junkie near-retard like nikki sixx says Junkie is his favorite book ever, that just adds more stink to the shit pile as far as I am concerned.

Rob Instigator 06.25.2008 01:49 PM

hey acousticrocks, write what you knopw, and never stop reading, and learning. that is the only way t create true great work.

because of astrology and things. a lot of people don't buy into it but even if it had no merit whatsoever it is a very, very interesting topic.

don't be scared...go forth and THRASH.
