https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Scf8nIJCvs4 I'm sceptical as fuck but have to be honest, it looks pretty interesting. |

Excited but concerned as well. One of my main concerns is him possibly writing his foot kink into a Sharon Tate/Folger murder scene. I can just see it now with him doing "artistic" close-ups on bloody soles or some shit. I'm calling it. If he does, I finally deem him a sick fuck going too far and this will be the movie I write him off... That anxiety aside, I am looking forward to it as well. Pitt and DiCaprio combo could be pretty badass. |
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
It was tons of fun and legitimately good. Great animation. Stylish and very cool. Thoroughly enjoyed it. |

Its odd that Tarantino has never made/written another movie that felt like Natural Born Killers. A movie that was certainly of its time. I know/heard he wasn't exactly happy with Oliver Stone's finished film in the end, but seeing as he did write the thing, Tarantino himself has never really put similar social commentary/satire in his movies. I have no idea if Once Upon a Time In Hollywood will be a return to that type of writing for him or not.

I don’t actually remember Natural Born Killers wel enough to know exactly what you’re talking about, but he did write True Romance. ... which I also don’t remember very well now that I think about it. Tarantino himself would probably argue that Reservoir Dogs is social commentary/satire, but the truth is that it’s just a really egotistical young man’s attempt to shock with racially charged dialogue that simply has not aged well. But I’m stoked for the new one because BRAD PITT. I love Brad Pitt. I know full well that he’s not the world’s greatest actor, but he’s one of the most naturally compelling and fun to watch. He kind of just *is Brad Pitt* in most movies these days, but damned if it isn’t a pleasure to watch. |

im not a snowflake but that shit was just gratuitous. not sure why capital one man consents. |
Reservoir Dogs was true to how white mobsters see race. CLASSIC.
Pulp Fiction was great, until you get to Tarantino himself writing a part for himself so he could say nigger this and nigger thant and headless nigger. That shit felt wrong when I first saw it in theater, and it feels wrong all the timje, especially since the excuse tarantino gives is that the character's wife is black, so he can say whatever racial shit comes to mind. Django Unchained SUCKED. I fucking hated that movie and it felt like a white man's fantasy of what a black man's revenge fantasy would be. Hateful Eight at least couches it all in the post civil war times, when racial shit was till red hot and horrible. Either way, it was a bit much, especially as it also contains what tarantino thinks is a good revenge for blacks, namely the speech about face fucking the son of the old white general/colonel. Only a white man wold think to insult a white man by showing how willing a black man is to get his dick sucked by a subservient man. HORRIBLE. Tarantino lost his shit years ago |
Quote:
Bullshit. Pulp Fiction is a 10/10. It’s a perfect movie. Quote:
Bullshit. Django was great. Quote:
Uhh... and Django didn’t take place during a period when “racial shit was red hot and horrible”? Because, of course, it did. Quote:
Probably, but never makes a movie that outright sucked. Everything’s at least a B- (Reservoir Dogs), and Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown are A+. |
Quote:
I don’t actually remember a ton of N-word stuff in that one, but I’ve only seen it once. It is a historical piece, though, so hard to really take issue with it. And I’m not saying Reservoir Dogs is satire. I think it’s embryonic Tarantino, before he learned to reel in his impulses to shock. I’m saying Tarantino would probably argue that it is commentary because it sounds better than the truth. Anyway, I think most of his movies actually have a fair amount of social commentary, so I’m not really sure what the Natural Born Killers remark was about but oh well. Haven’t seen it in forever. |
Saw Captain Marvel today. Pretty fun, did all it set out to do, made me really want to listen to Pretty Hate Machine again

Same. I seem to remember quite liking it but not being blown away, and can't remember hardly any of it now. One to put on the re-watch list. |
true romance: i liked it okay but i think tony scott’s directorial aesthetic didn’t quite gel with the story

What? I mean, that came out wrong, but you know what I mean. You set a movie in an era when people used the N-word and other racial slurs in their casual vernacular, and, what are you gonna do? Pretend those words weren’t part of everyday speech? Tarantino is not the only filmmaker by a long shot to do this. He’s one of the few white filmmakers to do it with movies about white peoples set in the fucking ‘90s though. |
Quote:
well with that lady’s speech sounding like an old sway board post it was hard not to notice. too much in fact it’s a tired tired tired schtick you know tarantino will use any excuse. in this century. doesn’t need to be so complicated, does it? “historical” hahahaha. blanco please! |
Quote:
Well, I’m not arguing with you. I don’t think. Just saying... well... actually I don’t think Tarantino’s a racist or anything. Not more than the average person anyway. I think he fetishizes black culture (and Asian culture, Italian culture, Hispanic culture) and doesn’t really know how to process it. Also he fancies himself a provocateur, but he’s probably really just a very imature person with low key Tourette’s. Still love almost all of his movies, though. Not nuts about the man, but the movies are good. He’s a child, of course. |
![]() No Country For Old Men I'm assuming it's pretty redundent saying anything about how great this is. I mean everyone here agrees it's at least pretty great, right? |
fucking glorious is what that is

*Everyone* don't think anyone can disagree that this film is pretty great *Rob* hold my beer |
Quote:
It’s great. Rob’s called “Instigator” for a reason. It’s goddamn great. |
I wonder...
Is No Country the best Coens movie? I tend to think of Fargo as the Pul Fiction of their canon, because goddamn that thing is a masterpiece, and Barton Fink *might* be my personal favorite, but No Country is a tour de force. Better than Fargo? Ch’yall think? |
hmmmm...
yes? hard to say but.... yes? ah, fuck, yes fargo was a very cool indie movie of the 90s and i’ll never look at a woodchipper the same way (lol) no country is one of the best movies ever, period. another level of craft and... everything, fuck. that chiguhr guy... brrrrr! no country is in the fucking pantheon. yeah. my “favorite” is raising arizona for lolworthy reasons. not the best just the one i love the most. just thinking about it right now i start to laugh |
There's a handful of Coen Bros films, Raising Arizona being one of them, that I've never clicked with. I tend not to like their more screwball side. Hudsucker Proxy being another one I couldn't get into.
For me, No Country is probably their 'best' film, but the one I enjoy the most is The Big Lebowski. |
Quote:
Shit, forgot about Lebowski. That might be my “favorite” for pure enjoyment. Barton Fink is underrated and was making indie and Cannes blow up before it as cool. That one is a goddamn gem, and when viewed as a Hitchcockian horror/thriller doubling as cautionary tale about the moral risks of seeking fame while thinking you’re the smartest fucking guy in the room, is really quite poignant. But yeah, No Country and Fargo are probably peak Coens craft. No Country, being a serious goddamn motherfucker and not a black comedy like Fargo, probably wins the day. There just isn’t a wasted moment in it, and Javier Bardem brings chills. |
oh shit i forgot about lebowski too! hahaha (how??)
yes... but man in raising arizona that supermarket shooting with the pantyhose mask and chase with the diapers and that howling song... that shit is comedy GOLD ![]() plus so much else... ![]() ![]() ![]() |
4 words:
Excellent Adventure Bogus Journey |
Didn’t like No Country mostly because of the source material, to my mind a racist author (you could expect to see “blackface” photos in any of his HS or Uni photos). That said, I think he’s a marvelous writer, just not Coen type material. I would have expected much better dialog, but Cormac really doesn’t do dialog like Coens, and that really bled thru into the movie.
My best of Coens is Miller’s Crossing, Fargo is second |
Quote:
What makes him a racist author? |
![]() lol what is a large bird doing in Japan? |
Quote:
Yeah, I’m not sure about this one either. Haven’t read all his books, but if there’s a racially charged agenda, I’m missing it. |
Quote:
Miller’s Crossing has some of the best cinematography of that era, and Albert Finney is a goddamn revelation in it. One of the best mob movies of the ‘90s. Perhaps second only to GoodFellas. But... on repeated viewings, it loses some of its oomph. Barton Fink, meanwhile, still reveals new crazy ass shit to me every time I watch it. Goddamn the Coens are good |
I find it hard to argue against Zoolander
|
Quote:
I love this film. |
What is you all Coen brothers fans' take on The Ballad of Buster Scruggs? I found it a pretty damn enjoyable watch, myself.
|
Quote:
I thought it was BEAUTIFUL and downright poetic binge-viewing, just glorious as fuck, but I have a hard time thinking of it as a “movie” since there’s no real connective tissue between the segments. But I LOVED IT and was sad when it ended. |
man i started watching scruggs and it was kinda hilarious but my time is parceled out in little blocks for the time being so we could not muster the whatever hours and full attention a movie requires
fuck, i havent even managed to watch roma either, and i wanna. but i hope to get back to those soon— a few weeks time at most. i hope, lol. meanwhile, just saw a decent trailer for a children’s movie https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t433PEQGErc joaquín is alright! |
Quote:
You know, I actually almost included this in my post, by calling it "an amusing nod to Netflix viewing habits in general," but thought that might sound corny or get lost in translation. I think you summed up my feelings on it as well. It is tough to consider it an outright movie for certain. |
