return of the living dead. My parents had it recorded on a vhs tape when I was a kid and I was mesmorized. ONe of those I can watch again and again.
Ryan took me to the drive though movies to see dusk to dawn when it came out. I really did not know it was about vampires at first. Loved it though even more. Great vampire movie and I don't dig vampires as much as zombies. |
wow. Zombie Flesheaters. I don't think I've seen that in like 10 yrs. Thanks for reminding me. :)
But yeah Night is almost like a classic that you "appreciate" (perfect word, thank you) and sit there and like point out what made the film important or interesting or ground-breaking... but it's not like a wild-ride. Dawn is more fun, but again -- I think part of it is that Romero was so heavy handed with his societal satirical shit. Y'know? Where as maybe there's a lot of Reagan-era dread in Return but it's hidden by piles of fun, over-the-top gore and nudity. :) Return - 10/10 Return 2 - 8/10 Return 3 - 7/10 Return 4 - 4/10 Return 5 - havent' seen it yet, but I love the cover. |

I think that's its problem. It's great when it concentrates on the gangster angle but then descends into a not very good horror movie. Whatever I may think of what Tarantino does now, he really was an extremely good gangster movie maker. It's a shame that he's sort of turned away from that genre, trying to transform himself into a kind of modern day Mario Bava/Sergio Leone, instead - which I really don't think is where his strengths lie. He needs to get back to making the kinds of movies he's good at, rather than try and impress us with his (not particularly impressive) knowledge of cult films. |

I HATE Mickey's performance in that. |

I don't care about being impressed, I care about being entertained. And though I love the gangster flicks era -- I for one am glad that he moved on. I've talked at great length about my love for his recent films, so I won't bother. But in case you didn't read it one of the 100 other times it was mentioned in this thread -- I'm the dude that loves Death Proof. (I've seriously watched it probably as many times as everyone else on this forum has combined, haha). The thing is this -- I think a lot of you are hoping for a "good" or "serious" horror film from him. Instead he makes shitty b-movie trash. With a big budget and viewed by millions. Which makes me happy. |

great movie! |
Barfly is much better than factotum for sure.
|
I still haven't seen Factotum. I kind of forgot about it. But Barfly is good.

I definitely wasn't suggesting that your liking for Death Proof stemmed from being 'impressed' by its references, but then nor do I think it's a desire (on my part, at least) for him to make something 'serious' in the horror genre - I'm not convinced he'll ever make a particularly 'good' horror movie, never mind a serious one (and I'll always value 'good' over 'serious', anyway). I just think he has a natural feel for the crime genre which I never see when he tackles other ones. You'll obviously disagree with me here but I just think he's a better director than films like Death Proof suggest. There aren't that many really talented directors in Hollywood right now, so it's a shame to see one who is punching so far below his weight. |

you and me both. Big time. I mean, it was actually the first QT movie I thought I might not like, cuz I'm not into war movies. But it just BLEW ME AWAY. |
I'll be honest, I've not seen it.
|
i know right!!!!! i had no idea what to expect....but it was just perfect I would not change it a bit.

u should check it out. its worth a watch. seems to be more about the characters than the war surrounding them |
Inglorious Basterds rules, and I don't like Tarantino much at all.
|
I can only say that as a huge QT fan, Inglourious was nothing like I expected and yet I loved every second of it. Amazing.
|
I'll pick it up next time I'm out. I think they're selling it in HMV for £3 at the moment.
|
Having admitted I like it, I will also say that I have absolutely no interest in watching it ever again, and highly doubt I will ever want to. There's not much to it, but it's certainly a huge step up from the disasterous Death Proof. I think it could've been a classic movie, but Eli Roth is embarassingly awful in it.

Inglorious Basterds was like a cinematic buffett stocked with only the delicacies I enjoy.
I really loved it. |
