![]() Deadpool. Saw it this weekend. Very fun. Laughed and laughed. ![]() watched this sunday after finding out my wife had never seen it. I loved it, but I have the feeling that the last 2 minutes Coda to the film was a bullshit re-shoot add-on because studios asked for an obvious happy ending. The movie should have ended with constantine and the lady walking out of hospital. |
Born To Be Blue
Excellent. |

Amy.
8/10 |
![]() on the Netflix. Odd comedy/horror film. Not bad. It helps to have a background in Old Testament shiznit. |
![]() Liked it. even though there are a LOT of bullshit parts. ![]() wow what shit. Made it about 50 minutes in and almost killed my TV it was so fucking horrible. I was truly bored to try and watch this..... |
revenge of the nerds II
airheads never ending story |
Human Capital, it was really good. Nice to see something half assed intelligent for a change
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2465578/ |
The Witch.
It was pretty fucking good. I get the feeling there was some dumbass allegory shit going on, and that it was supposed to be more about paranoia and the dangers of puritanical religious thought than about "real" witches and demons and shit. But fuck that, I'll take it at face value, because it was one hell of a horror movie. |
I have yet to rewatch it, but I think The Witch was fantastic, and as any great art, you can interpret it in different ways. Best damn movie about witchcraft in a long time.
|
I've got it on order from my public library. As a "semi-scholar" of early new England settlements, I should find a lot of things about the Calvinists. They were a pretty fucked up crew!
|
whatever!
yawn! you bum rushers cramping my style with The Witch. I will get the last say so. said so!!! |
da fuck you got now?!? my post will be the last post for a week and don't try to trump it. I like seeing pepper_green as the last poster.

![]() Watched Hail Caesar this weekend. I had put off watching it because the reviews made it seem like it was in the vein of the two Coen Bros. movies I fucking hate (O Bro where art thou, Hudsucker Proxy) but I really enjoyed it. It is like Lebowski in that the main plot thread is not what the movie is about. It helps if you are a big fan of the classic hollywood films, for every scene, every shot, is an homage to the classic films. ![]() In English it is titled "Spy Time" (horrible title). My wife and I gave this a chance and I had a laugh watching it. homage/spoof of the spy movie genre, and very funny if watched in Spanish. I think it is based on an old Spanish comic book? |
![]() saw this again this weekend too. we forwarded past all the boxer's crap side-story though. Made it much tighter and better. That part is boring AF |
so, I saw the VVitch, I'd say pretty poor in a lot of ways. Really decent acting, good cinematography and a real nice sound track. The story is s'posed to be from period chronicles, but it was a really poor representation of most of Calvinist thought, and was seen thru a very modern sensibility. A very modern treatment of childhood vs how they were seen back then, and a total lack of Indians, who played a huge part in the outlook of these early settlers. Just read Young Goodman Brown or Cotton Mather for a real representation.

Well, remember though, it's not supposed to be a great historical film. It's a horror film framed in pretty well-researched pre-colonial history. It's not about the big social picture in terms of Native Americans — though they are in the film. It's about paranoia and hysteria, and the scariness of Puritan belief. And yes, it's viewed through a modern lense, but less so than a lot of films. In the sense that it uses hindsight and modern social psychological theory to illustrate how fucked up that period was for individuals, it definitely does take a modern approach. But I don't think that's really a valid critique, because it's a horror film and in the film the horror is that particular period in human history. I thought it succeeded at what it was trying to do. I did not like the dead dog scene though. Sweet Jesus. I can't hack that shit. I feel like that kind of violence should be detailed on the rating explanation, along with "horror/fantasy violence" and "adult themes" and "disturbing imagery" it should say "animal violence." Seriously. That 2-second scene almost ruined the movie for me. I almost threw up in my mouth. I can watch people get sliced up and butchered all day long, but there are a few things I can't take, and animal violence is one of them. Rape is another. Overall though, one of the best and most original horror films in recent years. |
just part of the reason not to go to movies you know too much about. Sort of like my response to the Miles biopic, it's just too far from true for me to develop any sort of sympathy with anyone in the movie. Don't get me wrong, it was an OK movie, great soundtrack!, but missed on so many possibilities that it was a 5/10 for me.
PS, if you dislike animal cruelty, don't listen to the critics and do not go to see "the Lobster" |

I can dig this. I have a serious problem watching films about psychiatry or clinical psychology. Not only because I once fiercely pursued a professional career in cognitive neuroscience, but also because I fucking loathe the discipline of clinical therapy. Sometimes it works in film, but usually only when the serious and dangerous problems with the scientist-practitioner model are being highlighted. Noted on the Lobster thing. Thanks for he heads up. If the movie's good enough, I can handle it, just like I can handle rape scenes if they serve an important purpose in the film. But if there's no reason for showing animal violence... if the implication if it could be just as effective, and the asshole director just wants people to cringe, I just can't do it. That poor sweet littl Border Collie. :( |
![]() Delirious and looking for anything remotely odd on the Netflix and I watched this horror. Have you seen Travolta with a Serbian accent? neckbeard? Deniro and Travolta trading torture porn scenes? Horrendous movie. I forwarded through it and it was still painful and lame. |
![]() This was half interesting and half dull as fuck. |
The Revenant. For something with such violence, it was a really beautiful movie
|
Revenant is very cool.
|
Still haven't seen Revenant. Or — God help me — Spotlight. Need to make time for those.
|
I really liked Spotlight quite a bit, well acted and a terrific story. But it is nowhere near the artistry of Revenant, IMO
|
ORson Wells The Stranger.
I'm going to look forward to this one http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/23...c-resurrection |
I watched The Big Short and thought it was goddamn brilliant. Not in a traditional way, but still brilliant. The fact that Revenant and Spotlight beat that film for Best Actor and Best Picture, respectively, makes nervous. Like a mistake must have been made. Because if that film was Academy scraps for 2015's acting and ensemble awards, I am almost afraid to see what won. Like, if they don't absolutely blow me away, I'm going to be pissed off about the low-end mortgage crisis all over again. Hah.
|
I think me last movi, aye movi was Werner Herzogs vampire dracula. Visual orgasm ensued. Nuff...said...mush
|
Herzog's Nosferatu is aweesome!!!
|
yeah, Big Short was pretty good, even made me halfways like Steve Carell. I still think the overall Revenant was way better, the cinematography on that was fantastic!
|
The Hunger.
watched this at some holiday inn on TMC. loved the 80's atmosphere and david bowie. |
Green Room last night.
Good. Very good. But not quite deserving of all the hype. Nice premise, well thought out, but not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination. Tonight we finally watched EX MACHINA, and that was absolutely fucking stunning. Eerie as all hell. Excellent soundtrack too. |
Sleeping With Other People and The Purge
|
Quote:
The first Purge or that new one that just hit theatres? I'm kinda interested in watching these films. The premise is interesting (though it seems to be kind of a re-branded riff on The Running Man, Hunger Games, and the like). |
Quote:
I just read the Revenant, and enjoyed it well enough, but the idea of watching all that shit unfold on screen over 2+ uninterrupted hours sounds... daunting. |
The first one from a few years ago. Definitely didn't get much of a Hunger Games/Running Man vibe from it. Only real close detail to that is that they legalize a bunch of normally illegal actions for 12 hours at a time.
|
I tried to watch Dune for the first time and holy mega bore! think I made it 15 or minutes so while trying not to fall asleep but when that cube shield fighting began with MacLachlan and the dude from Star Trek, I said "ok, that's it!!! fuck this crap!!!". I had no clue what was going on leading up to that event anyway so it wasn't like I was disappointed. just annoyed and lethargically flabbergasted at how dull this movie was.
damn! who are the survivors that made it through this shit, possibly bad edited movie? and I love David Lynch movies to death but holy fuck cow tits. snore. drool on pillow. night night. there's a reason why I never saw this film until now. bore boogaloo. |
I read Dune several times before watching it. It is a deeply flawed movie, especially to those not familiar with the material, but I love it. It is overblown and self-important but I dig it.

Holy shit, I never realized David Lynch directed this film! What the fuck? Book good, movie bad. Makes more sense now. What an odd pairing. David Lynch and Frank Herbert? Ick. Course I haven't seen it since I was a kid, so maybe I'm forgetting or missing out on some real awesomeness. Doubtful. |
