ah ha ha ha. either haven't seen or don't remember QoS, but in this movie bond keeps shooting at people and nothing happens to them. i'm like "larger caliber, longer barrel, asshole!" but "action logic" aside (it's always absurd anyway), the choreographies were excellent (e.g. the fight w/ the sniper), and they did nice things with the character i thought. shamelessly batmanesque, but it works. |

![]() Gomorrah While I still prefer the book, this gets better the more times I watch it. |
ive been meaning to watch gomorrah ever since it came out...
|
Give it a go. It's pretty good. It gets better after watching it a few times and even then isn't amazing but still worth two hours of your time. Be prepared, though, for any romantic ideas you might have about Naples to be well and truly quashed.
Plenty of this ... ![]() Not much of this ... ![]() |
oh yeah ha ha i have no illusions
i once watched a documentary about some poor family from the naples slums. i forget about the rest of them but the husband was a serious cutter-- wherever the "blood built up" he'd slash his chest and had to be taken to the emergency. fucking horrible. they lived in what looked like a bombed-out slum. |

![]() Was sick yesterday. watched this in bed, cuz I am a trek nerd. not too great but neat enough as a trek history lesson. Then I saw this one ![]() which was cool, like a history lesson on bond. not too awesome, but cool for a fan. |
Although I'm not a Trek nerd the phenomenon does fascinate me. I'll look out for that documentary.

I know what you mean about the 'exuding something sexual' thing and on that score I'd definitely say The Silence is a good option. There's something very kinky about that movie. Quote:
That was the first Bergman film I ever saw and yeah, while I did really like it, it made me quite weary of checking out his other films for a while. I lump it in with the likes of Salo, Breaking the Waves and Irreversible: films that I appreciate but ultimately endure, rather than enjoy. If that makes sense. |

I've only seen it once but I really enjoyed Gomorrah. For every critic that thought Coppola and Scorsese glamorize the mafia in their movies, Gomarrah truly doesn't. |
going to watch Spring Breakers in the cinema this evening.

The most recent movie I watched was called Sleep, My Love. Directed by Douglas Sirk. Starring Claudette Colbert, Don Ameche, and Bob Cummings. IT FUCKING RULED.

Yeah, really good! Although it feels a lot like a showcase for some top actors to really do their stuff. The story isn't up to much and the whole thing could've probably done with losing a half hour but for a chance to see just how good Joachim Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are, it justifies itself in spades. |
okay okay i'll put it in my NF quee & thanks murmer for the extensiv spoilers

nah, i jumped! spotted that, & saw the paragraph length that followed, & fled. maybe i'll come to read after. right now i have the full fanny and alexander to watch-- the tv version-- ahhhh, the pleasure...! |
There's really no spoilers to give away. Fucked up nomadic loner meets charismatic cult leader and becomes his protege. That's about it, plotwise.
|
It's a great film, now hurry up and watch it.

anyway i just came back from the cinema. thought it was great. seemed like most people in the theater thought they were going to watch a typical teen sex comedy. they weren't expecting it to be that dark. haha. |

Excellent reading of the film.... my personal fave from last year. Also, don't discredit the fact that, basically, even tho PT Anderson's films are ALL about the father-son dynamic (since his own relationship with his father was unfulfilling to say the least) "The Master" feels like his most raw and pointed. That final scene is devastating when taken in the context of a father and son and the father sending him out into the world on his own to survive or fail. |

The first movie is exactly the same...except for a few things...but still very minor. As for the second movie....like half of it I don't remember. I'm pretty sure this is where they begin to really differ. I don't remember some spy chick stealin' an EVA. But yeah...animation is neat and all improved n stuff. I seriously can't wait for 3.0 though. I need it now! There's a stream of theatre footage....but it looks like crap. |

I enjoyed Skyfall. Good Bond flick. I also liked Quantum, and Casino Royale.

you can't buy booze with SNAP!
wait, wasn't construction booming again? http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...ent-heres-why/ ^^ is this article here true? anyway, best luck dude. i watched this: ![]() cgi is still creepy, but the action was excellent (spielberg) and the voices were great (haddock especially). shit brought back childhood memories. ![]() the recreation of this comic panel was cool |
