If you're getting paid for work, it's hardly a waste. It's keeping you alive. Unfortunately for 90 percent of the world's population, this is reality.
Feel grateful that you're employed. |
Cleaning...being sober...cutting hair....I have just discovered though that I am very good at driving my little honda through mud without getting stuck in it.

This is the most annoying fucking simplistic response anyone can give to the kinds of feelings EVERYONE has sooner or later. Right up there with "feel grateful you have four working limbs." Yes, things can get worse. That doesn't exclude having shitty fucking days on occasion, or even fairly regularly. Jesus Christ. |

i almost forgot, i saw this yesterday so i just came back briefly to post this: CONTEXT, man, CONTEXT: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_277218.html this is today's fuckign news. if i recall, gmku was jobless for a while some months ago. i had a fucking horrible november-may dry spell that made me rethink my living situation (i moved). i guess at this point i'm happy i have 4 limbs! ok. have a good weekend. |
Valuable perspective.
I was totally under the impression that we were in the midst of the greatest economic expansion in the history of civilization, with plentiful opportunities for all. I myself turned down seventeen job offers just yesterday, and I have almost no marketable skills. |

I think the thing is that very few people would disagree that, in these difficult times, having a job, of any sort, is generally beneficial. The problem (and this is definitely a problem for the left) is that being grateful for a job doesn't mean that people should put up with degrading, underpaid and unsatisfying work. Ok, there isn't that dream job for everyone, and I think it's definitely healthy for everyone to put a bit of time in in crappy jobs (I've brushed warehouses, served bars, delivered papers, whatever) but that by no means means that it is the ideal-case scenario that the majority of people hate their jobs. Having just left a job that had minimal prospects, 'fair' wage and hideous colleagues, I'm definitely all in favour of... anything other than what I was doing. My main problem with that particular job being that I know lots of fully trained IT people who'd kill for the job I was doing, and it's entirely unfair that thanks to my ability to chat shit I was given the job over umpteen more qualified people. THE POINT is that it's always worth striving for better, because we really don't live in an ideal world. The corrolary of this being that just because there's a recession on doesn't mean that everyone should start veering further right. Obviously, I'm not suggesting that one or two posts on the internet is immediately an admission of being neo-Schutzstaffel, but centre-right employment rhetoric is precisely the sort of thing the left needs to very explicitly shout about (which is what Drone intimated then had the 'oh, it's the internet' thing, which I can sympathise with). |

especially because it was those cunts who got us into this mess. never mind getting rid of their bonuses i think we should get rid of their heads, guillotine style. |
If work was enjoyable, it would be called PLAY. Those who are lucky enough to enjoy their jobs.....are truly blessed. I am one of the lucky ones, but I have had jobs that sucked day after day after fucking day with no end in sight.
...ppl who bust their ass working every day have earned the right to bitch every once in a while. |
Life.

yeah, that.

I suck at pretending to care.
No, really. People think I'm really rude because I don't care. Well, I don't care. |
