No, not so famous in the UK, but what a life, eh? I'm going to check out his autobiog as soon as poss. Cheers for the heads up on this one, girlgun! :) |
i've read about 1/3 of it... i love it. but i had never heard of him! and i don't exactly live in a cave....
he's hilarious and fantastic. i'm a total fan now. |
That crucifixion thing sounds totally fucked in an amazing way. The whole Phillipines crucifixion cult remind me a lot of the Buddhists in Thailand who put skewers etc in their bodies and faces to show their devotion.
|
What the fuck? I was passively reading this thread with little interest, but now I'm intrigued.
|
|
i know that the crucifixion thing happens, but i haven't come to that in the book. it's completely enthralling... even his stories as a child. oddly, he played in some band called the void that opened for joy division and PIL. the point of the book is that he wants attention. which is fine by me. everyone does... whether they admit or not.

Tis true, girlgun. His "philosophy" re sleeping with prostitutes kinda makes sense on an intellectual level, but man, he's missing out on so much intimacy, which is a bit saddening, really.
|
i saw Sebastian Horseley at the current 93 show i went to earlier this year. david tibet dragged him onstage and the band jammed to david screaming "dandy in the underworld", then sebastian seemed to dissappear, and david (who was blind drunk) started to cry and somebody in the audience had to hug him.
amazing show. |
well and intellectually he seems to know that.... but he has intellectual reasons for wanting lack of intimacy. err... if that makes sense.
i can understand... but not relate. |

A mate of mine was there, and what you say is true. Poor Tibet, can't handle his booze, eh? |

haha that's actually really funny. |

Totally. Sex minus intimacy = a wank, basically. D'you think his pretty shocking childhood has kinda frightened him from intimacy? There's the (slim, I will admit) chance that he's actually gay too, but hasn't come out yet... |
Not wanting intimacy is not an intellectual issue. You can intellectualize it for or against, but it's mostly just a personal preference, I think.
I can't imagine lack of intimacy, though. |

It was 29 today where I live. Oh wait, you're talking in farenheit... Well actually, it apparently makes 84° farenheit, so that's still close |
well from what i've read, there's NO way he isn't at least bi. he becomes infatuated with men. and not in the regular man-crush sort of way. i didn't even realize he considered himself straight. so he does?

"The temperature here is a nice 25 degrees." And then there's a good 15 seconds of panic, because I didn't even bring a coat. EDIT: Wow I had to edit this like 5 times. |
girlgun - It seems that way publicly, at least. Poor guy (seriously), he should just accept who he is sexually, the "muse" be damned.
|
he drunk three bottles of wine on stage, and at one point quite early on he lost his balance and knocked a bottle over, so he nicked another bottle from his poor violinist. i assume he drunk a lot more before he went on.
it really was a fantastic show, and turned me into a huge current 93 fan. also, marc almond's performance was superb... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-hLX5MtpA0 and antony's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_qRCMXWDe4 |

i can't imagine him considering himself straight. if it were up to me to make the call, i'd say he's gay as gay can be. and i make this judgement with much education. regardless of sexual preference, he's fucking funny and the book is readable as shit... and deliciously trashy. |
