![]() ![]() WHOA! THIS ONE: ![]() First one ever: |
If he is, you need to see Rubin & Ed ![]() ![]() ...I liked him okay until I saw It Is Fine, Everything Is Fine and What Is It, two films I absolutely hated that he directed. Those films just absolutely disgusted me, and he seemed like a dick when presenting Fine live (I have What Is It on dvd). Something about old mentally retarded men in diapers getting jerked off by a porn star, a gross picture of Shirley Temple naked, his films starring people with down's syndrome, and salting snails rubbed me the wrong way in those movies. I know it was meant to "provoke" and be abrasive, but those films are absolutely terrible, and they crossed the line, by belittling, making fun of, and exploited retarded men for the sake of "entertainment" (instead of, y'know, actually making a compelling film). What Is It? mainly got heat for having a Johnny Rebel song "Some Niggers Never Die, They Just Smell That Way" play for a scene, but few people talk about the disgusting exploitative nature of his sick direction. Just rubbed me the wrong way, big time. I can stand that stuff a bit in excess, but that was the point of the entire films. Now, on the other hand, look at a movie like Special Needs, which cast real-life mentally challenged people, and it was heartwarming and funny, and everyone looked like they were having a good time... Jefftowne (http://www.hulu.com/watch/155070/jeff-towne) is one of my all time favorite documentaries; it follows an overweight man with down's syndrome, and could be considered exploitative, but he is clearly having a good time; it's an honest documentary, and the director befriended Jeff and shows him as a human, with flaws (fondling women) and strengths. Glover's films made me feel uncomfortable, which was the point, and I get all that, and I'm certainly no censorship nutcase; I just feel he is an untalented director and some of his views/reasoning behind making those films were about as bad as Matthew Barney or something... he comes off as a clown. A clowny clown clown. |
Whoah, I LOVE some of those Lynch posters! Great stuff, many of them actually manage to capture the feeling you get from watching them. Insane but fantastic stuff. Yes. Thanks Adam!
|
no prob dude, they are cool as hell!
|
Yes they are. I'd love to have some of those on my wall. Especially the Lost Highway ones are great.
|
I have 2 of the Twin Peaks ones he posted.

![]() AMAZING! I will definitely be re-watching this one for years to come. Quote:
I've only seen What Is It?, but I too found it to be deeply unsettling at times. It's rare that a film can get to me like that, especially since I tend to seek out more exploitive shock flicks than most. There was just something so cold, and emotionless about the whole thing, that you really had to question the filmmaker's intent (ugh, I feel like some vegan crying over Cannibal Holocaust). However, I can't necessarily say that it was a bad film. Certain segments were genuinely entertaining to me, and the film did effectively accomplish both providing me with a sense of unease, and subsequently giving me mixed feelings on what to make of it...(lol, what is it?) Have you seen his interview on Tom Green Live? He defends the piece, and gives an explanation for his choice of actors early within the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9j7ISnwaPg |

fuck! This isn't even on netflix!!!! |
![]() Some say Roman Polanski's last couple of movies have been really good and he is/was getting a sort of reinvigoration with his carrer. Yet I found this underwhelming and for a thriller, rather boring. |
I saw that Ghost Writer shit on a plane on my way to Korea. The most boring utter bollocks ever to be created.
|
shock em dead's ridiculous, this cover's much better...
![]() Lots of good "hard rock horror movies", like that Slumber Party Massacre one (I think the 2nd one), ROCK N ROLL NIGHTMARE (the last 15 minutes are the funniest I've ever seen in a film), Hard Rock Zombies, Rocktober Blood, Black Roses, etc.. Glad to see you found WHAT IS IT? sick and too cold-hearted, Joe, I figured you'd be the one to go "WHAT? IT RULES!" and delight in its sickness. |
oh yeah Slumber 2 is AMAZING!!!

Don't get me wrong, I liked it (7.5/10), but it wasn't necessarily anything extraordinary. I think it really suffers from having too much confused symbolism, which leads the viewer to never be able to interpret what Crispin is trying to say (I know, I know....What Is It?). This open-endedness would be cool if the film were Eraserhead, or something...but Eraserhead, it is not. Quote:
If you liked Slumber Party Massacre 2, you'll probably pass out from excitement while watching Shock 'em Dead. Aside from the giant pimple scene, I found the sequel to be pretty forgettable. I absolutely love the original Slumber Party Massacre. It's premise is so simple, yet it uses that to it's advantage and pulls off something extraordinary with all of it's well-thought gags. |
![]() picked this up the other day. i enjoyed it. not like i expected anything less |
I watched this with the kids Sunday They loved It

There's a version with an alternate soundtrack. The most widely seen version with Jagger's sound was the first time he ever played a moog, I hear. He played it, recorded it, and that was it. Very unnerving. ...MANHATTAN is amazing. That's funny, I actually re-watched Annie Hall the other day. 10/10 |
![]() 6/10 ![]() 5/10... fucking robot |
![]() expendables - 2/10 Boring as hell. Some of the dialogue was just weird. Just a waste of time. Even for ERIC ROBERTS films, this was amongst the worst. Go watch POWER 98 or something! Haha. I mean, seriously. This film gets 2 points for that camera spin during the 2nd shootout. Dull, boring.. CGI blood.. Jet Li wasted.. AWFUL direction... the last 45 minutes are so dark you can't see shit.. constant cuts... cameras moving everywhere.. how can a film so short feel so long, so bloated? Such a waste of time. |
![]() I loved it! Heard couple of the songs on El-P's Collecting the Kid, it always interested but I never decided hunt it down and watch it. Anyways I finally did and I should've watched it A LOT sooner. El-P's music palette is perfect couple for this movie. Beautiful shot, the storyline was solid and ending was very nice. I gotta buy this. 9/10 |

![]() Good movie. Dark, depressing, but strange too in it's narrative. The plot is fairly thin and kind of muddled in it's execution. The movie kind of changes what it's about several times with no real flow which is semi distracting. And the animation is smooth but also kind of bland, the textures just seem really flat at points. But it's interesting, violent, cold, a little too heavy handed with the wolf symbolism, but that's alright. It was together enough just enough to be good. |
half-watched half of The Time Traveler's Wife.
y'know the concept's kind of good. Rachel McAdams is great anyway. And their wedding band played Joy Division. |
i started watching neil gaiman's "stardust"
i thought it was going to be shit but it turned out entertaining not blow-your-fucking-mind entertaining but better than the beastmaster-quality shit i was expecting. claire danes is ridiculous with a fake english accent but she's still lovely. yes, yes, i haven't watched any great movies lately. |
claire danes? Lovely? I guess it IS science fiction.

I should have said "does the science fiction movie involve a time machine where she goes back to the days of Romeo & Juliet?" haha |

Elevator Movie...was really neat, actually. I love the bad editing and framing, made it feel like a real intimate experience with the characters, without that horrid shaky camera "blair witch" bullshit. Even though it was pretty out there and stumbled along, by the end I felt pretty alienated from the guy (i felt for him so much yet truly believed that he was nuts.) I think thats a good thing.
Night Train to Terror - HA! talking about bad editing! I had no fucking clue what was going on for the first 20 minutes. Then I was hooked. Loved it. Dans Ma Peau - As movies with no conclusions would have me, for the first little while after it ended I felt sort of empty. But the more I thought about it, the more I started to appreciate how little was said (people will either hate or love this sort of direction.) It entered subject matter that is very little understood, partly maybe because the experience is as varied as there are people experiencing it, without trying to form an "AH HA! THIS IS IT, I HAVE DECIDED SO." The writer/actor was pretty damned amazing. Also, it didnt just have to do with self-mutilation, but can represent any self-destructive or addictive behavior, but just pushes it right over the edge. So awesome that a film was made analyzing the relationship a person can have with their own body this way. I think there are people out there who would like to try to draw connections between a woman and society, but really, the ultra-painfully long, drawn out and real-time moments where we watch this woman engage in her pleasure says that its all personal. |
