This news just in: Carphone Warehouse have pulled out of sponsoring Celebrity Big Brother because of the outcry over some of the participants' behaviour, and The Perfume Shop has said it will no longer stock Jade Goody's perfume range.

Mind you, I remember something similar happening when Kate Moss' cocaine use was splashed across the newspapers, and she's still doing okay for herself.

Toilet & Bowels 01.18.2007 10:45 AM

as shameful as their behaviour is it is good that this sort of thing is being brought to the fore.
did anyone see widdecome vs the hoodies thing the other day? i kicked myself for missing it, even though being that it was on itv it was probably shite.

Whichever way it goes,i can't see her going to scrub school floors anytime soon. The problem with the press that mostly pushes these (in)famous creatures is that it is just as bad as the people it puts down when there is an outcry for some stupid and misguided remark.

Ive watched only one or 2 episodes of this series, were those comments about "Indians are thin..." and "Go back to the slums" actually broadcast?

The whole thing down to the individuals involved, im sure Channel 4 will not have known that they had a tendency to say things like this when they signed them up.

Its very interesting that they so blatantly just came out and said something and (so far as i know) didnt think "Hey that sounded quite bad, thats not what i really think, maybe i should apologise". Doubtless when they leave and see the furore there will be swift and sweeping apologies from all.

I'm sure that they arent racists, trust me i know what proper racists are like. Maybe a good thing people can take from this is that you shouldn't misrepresent your views by saying things you don't mean, even if you dont like someone and youre in a heated arguement.

and Kate Moss is different to Jade Goody, in the way Evian Spring Water is to Battery Acid.

porkmarras 01.18.2007 12:10 PM

Oh!It was Kate Moth's birthday 2 days ago and according to the free London Paper she went to 5 different drinking dens in 1 night!Party girl!

that is true.
i haven't watched any of the big brother shows, but i've read about this racism controversy in the paper.
i reckon this is just what the organizers are wanting. the idea of the show (i could be wrong) seems to be to try and create an accurate yet entertaining microcosm of britain and british culture. and so far, they seem to be doing pretty well.
personally, i don't like the whole scandal this has caused. watching a man on channel four news telling us how this will provoke a gigantic surge of racism amongst teenagers, could he be anymore condesending and patronising?
just because some no-hope cretinous hack torments an indian on t.v, the whole of youth culture will follow in her footsteps, apparently.

the ikara cult 01.18.2007 12:23 PM

The worst thing they ever did was a few years ago when theyd had the really boring one that Kate Lawler won the previous year, so they got a load of arguementative and obnoxious self aggrandisers (even by reality TV standards) in, and engineered that fight - When the 2 girls were out for a couple of days and could hear everything being said, and were then reintroduced in a flurry of alcohol to pick fights with the people they didnt like. It was scary the way the TV producers manipulated the situation.

Hip Priest 01.18.2007 01:00 PM

^ The worst thing about that particular affair was that another contestant, Nadia, actually hit someone but got off absolutely free, presumably because she ticked to many PC boxes.

atari 2600 01.18.2007 01:07 PM

This is still fun to talk about the Big Brother racism scandal, isn't it, Max?

Yeah, it sure is, Conan, it sure is.

The thing is that in this instance, it wasn't in the heat of an argument; it has been deliberate and persistent. That's a major factor in the controversy.

Toilet & Bowels 01.18.2007 01:43 PM

yeah, just because it isn't violently confrontational and the contestants are too stupid to realise the implications of what they are saying doesn't mean it isn't racist

PAULYBEE2656 01.18.2007 03:29 PM

its bollocks. there is and has been no rascism in big brother. just 3 skanger girls who feel intimitated by someone who has shedloads of poise, elegance and dignity... shilpa aint no angel, i see her as a bit 2 faced but the 3 amigos are really thick, dumb and childish....

rude yes, racist no!

its stupid, but i still watch it always!!!!

PAULYBEE2656 01.18.2007 03:30 PM

i mean if 2the indian" comment is racist. whats gonna happen to apu nahasapeelapetalaan???? "chutney butt" "curryface" "thank you come again" etc etc etc
