Funny People was great. Sad, but great. I really liked it.

that looks fucked up! i wanna see it. |
![]() wonderfully shot. loved it, except that the frequent appearance of "hollywood stars" made it hard to get immersed in the movie. "oh, there's that guy who played a psycho killer" "oh, there's the guy with the addiction problems" "oh, there's that scientologist" i still think bresson was right about the use of non-actors. |
![]() The best movie based on a Stephen King novel I've seen . |

Yeah, it's a great movie ! I would say my favorite movie based on a Stephen King novel is Misery. |

I liked it way more than I thought I would. |
Today and yesterday I watched The Bed You Sleep In (again), Rocky II (it was on TV and I always find them funny), Pierrot Le Fou, Period Piece and Touch Me In The Morning
|
YES!
Derek's digesting the classics! |

Oh, I'm sorry Dr. Eugene.
Never been too big of a fan of Zedd. |

I'm taking a breather right now. I enjoy his use of exaggerated artificial stage design, illustrated establishing shots, costumes, cheap FX, and the opening credits looked really cool. But the camera work is nauseating at times. I'm sure that's a purposeful thing, and seems to be intended to add a realist contrast to the asinine absurdity of the piece but....damn it's a chugger. |
The sets were the only thing I liked. Find his stuff really boring. If it matters, you watched his best film, of the 7 or 8 I've seen.
Anyway.. ![]() |

take consolation in the fact that as bad as rocky ii was, it was not as bad as rocky iv. |
The Rocky films are good for comical value, Sylvester Stallone has the same tone and emotion throughout the whole movie, hilarious!

![]() I quite enjoyed it. |

Breaking Bad was great last night.
|
![]() 7.5/10 Does anyone play sleaze better than james woods |
That film and Bully are the only ones I ever HALF WAY like by that director.
|
The only other movie I've seen by him is Wassup Rockers, and I really liked it, so I'll probably be checking out bullly. Some cheesy acting aside, I thought another day in paradise was fucking great
|
I find him really boring and dull. I just don't understand the appeal. I think Ken Park is in the bottom 10 worst films I've ever seen. Just seems like another dude referencing Jost and Godard in a poor way. Seems to be in the same boat as Van Sant but not as talented, in direction or storytelling. He also sometimes reminds me of Gregg Araki -- in fact, he downright rips off Araki but puts a more mainstream spin on his works... Araki's films are just mindblowing, consistently. Also, obviously linked to Korine, but not as imaginative or smart. I think Korine actually said that about Larry Clark... (and I'm no Korine worshipper, believe me) "He's an okay photographer but an idiotic director." That's the vibe I get from him too. His films just communicate nothing. I dunno... I thought Whassup Rockers was annoying, and Kids is just SHIT.
Glad you like him though man.. ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE is entertaining enough, and BULLY is... well... unlikeable but compelling, in the "cool! It's a true story! Wow!" kinda way. |
nyway..

Over the past 4 days..
![]() deadlock - 8/10 ![]() rocknrolla - 3/10 Ritchie sucks. This will be the last film I ever watch by him. A completely empty film. ![]() White Star - 8/10 ![]() double life of veronique - 8/10 Most beautiful film I've ever seen. |
![]() red - 8/10 ![]() White - 8/10 ![]() A Short Film About Killing - 8/10 A Short Film About Love - 8/10 |
![]() Clean - 7/10 Maggie Cheung is AWESOME. ![]() EROS - 5/10 Somewhat predictably, Antonioni's segment is confused with flashes of brilliance.. Wong Kar Wai's segment is stylish enough to be entertaining even though he just seems to want to be the new Godard... and Sodbergh's segment just kinda sucks. |
That Kieslowski guy is a fucking genius. I have like 4 more films to watch by him. I really can't believe how good he is.
|
this weekend.
![]() 9/10 a fairy tale for kids but it was very cool. ![]() not quite what I epxected. much more of a dark comedy than a goofy flick,. 7/10. had some funny stufff |
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
...I usually watch it this time of year. It's amazing to me that Tobe Hooper was able to make such a perfect film, and then go on to forge a career with film after film that seems desperate to prove to the audience that TCM was just dumb luck and that he's not even a pretty good director. |

I know you and I have different tastes, but come on. Empty? I grant you that once you've seen one Guy Ritchie film you've seen them all, but if one can do one thing very well, it's better than doing a whole bunch of things sorta OK... |

I forgot he was directing and I was confused and thinking of Benicio. Are they related? |
Guy Ritchie sux.

gullermo is mexican . benicio is Puerto Rican. |

I'm not surprised he quit. Six years shooting a two part movie? Fuck that. It took Ridley Scott just 6 weeks to shoot Kingdom of Heaven. |

you've seen his dekalog, yes? |
