@ TheFoxBen: it turns out there's actually an Internet connexion where I am, but it's not via WiFi so I can't connect with my laptop, and therefore cannot be online too often.

I've just read Les Faux-Monnayeurs by André Gide (The Counterfeiters) and it's probably going to become one of my favorite books. It's super complex, yet I got into it pretty easily. The end is terrific.
