listened to the new Aphex Twin.
@sev: Don't be mad. Didn't love it on first listen. Some good songs. But just wasn't wow'd like I hoped. The first time I heard Chosen Lords I felt more attached immediately than this. :\ |

I ain't mad atcha... I just simply don't feel the same way. :) SYRO is SO satisfying. No, it's not the mind blower that a lot of people wanted it to be, but it's also not old and boring sounding. It's not (no offense to mbv) fucking m b v, which was more like an old album mastered to sound like something modern. But you know... It's not the last Aphex Twin album, so there's no need for it to be more epic than it is. It's highly musical, thorough, complex and rich. Kind of like Plaid's Reachy Prints, it's a bright, bold and utterly recognizable return to form record that delivers a balanced listening experience. There aren't a lot of high highs or low lows. Nothing to grandiose or warped, no "Windowlicker" and no Drukqs. It's just a really goddamn high quality record. I'm glad I didn't spoil the whole album for myself by listening to it all ahead of time. Nothing on the album disappoints, and I can't imagine it not landing in my top 5 at year's end. |
Been playing the shit out of Sister lately. That breakdown section in Pacific Coast Highway gets me every time.

Same. That section of the song alone makes it one of my favorite SY tracks |
I can't get enough of SYRO. Every listen brings me one step closer to understanding the universe. At least that's how it feels.
The whole album is seamless; it really does represent some of the most consistently musical work Aphex Twin has done. And the low end... I don't think I've ever been quite as impressed with the bass grooves on an RDJ album. I'm calling it my favorite album of the year so far. I'll have to see how Kanye can fare against it. And unless something's gone terribly wrong, he'll best it in the long run. But its been a serious treat, letting this album grow on me and sink into my subconscious. Mesmerizing. |

Just hear it and enjoy. I just wish SY made this themselves in 2014... |
This and it sounds fantastic!

This year I've really gotten into Bush and this one seems to sit near the summit. Few would argue it's one of the best albums of the eighties, no?

You don't need the "bland." Calling Kate Bush a "singer songwriter" is insulting and dismissive enough. She's so much more. |

I rip on most singer-songwriters male or female. Just don't like them. Don't want to hear their poetic musings.
To each their own though. I love tons of crap you guys would hate for sure... |

Indeed. I cannot stand her voice or her music personally, but I can recognize her as a rare true arts polymath. Writer, singer, producer, modern dancer, actor, soundtrack musician, instrumentalist. I really hate this music, but she is an exceptional and multidimensional talent. |
