i was talking to a couple of them and found out that most of them were ex-pats who had arrived from america in the 60s after spending the late 1950s around the beats. a very interesting and amazing place. where else in the world will you find octogenerian lydia lunch fans but paris. |

Europe has a history for cities thinking that they are all that. The only appealing place that I haven't been to is Berlin, and the Germans seem more focused and less up their own arse than anyone. From England to Italy.
|
Barcelona too.
|
Berlin and Barcelona are both great cities. Largely because (unlike Paris) they move on.

Well, her too. But the image of all these ex-pats in black rollnecks. Give me a break. |

Well, you're not that clever, but you still go on about being French all the time. Bertrand or Torn Curtain are both much more interesting posters than you are, and they they don't go on about their being French as much as you do. That's enough proof that intelligence doesn't reign supreme in France either. And I'm Italian. Take that. |
I commend !"£$% on having a better command of French than myself, but ask him only to recognise ythat the relationship between England and France is one of quite unique hostility. If you like Paris, I envy you more than disagree, because it will always be a Paris closed off to the English.

sorry man not trying to rub it in. i was treated like shit in paris for the first 3 days of my stay because i tried to address people in english. however, after a few drinks my french came back and people were SO nice it was awesome. |
Parisiennes don't take any shit like Londoners do, and that's why I love them.
|
One of my closest friends is French and our friendship is strengthened out of a recognition that our symbiotic hatred of each other's capitol city has reached the point of parody.
someone cleverer than any of us here once said that we should judge a man not by his friends, but by his enemies. That the great enemy of England is France and vice versa only goes to demonstrate both nation's greatness. |
God I'm SOOOO fucking drunk right now.
|
whatever. the english and the french are good at telling themselves how goot they are. that's about it.
|
buona notte, mes amis, no sean hijoeputas el uno con el otro, and have fun.
|
I will not be told, either by an American or an Italian, about the 'special relationship' that is held between England and France. They hate us, we hate them, but deep down we both have the utmost respect for one another. So my claim that Paris is overrated is not a triumphalist one, but rather one that is filled with dismay.

you just perfectly summarised my last post. |

I think I never wanted to prove that French are the most intelligent people. I'm here to have fun, to talk about music and stuffs, not to quarrel with somebody on this board. I don't have any problem with english, italians, spanish, americans... I don't claim that I'm clever, exceptionnal. You can think what you want about me, I don't care. |

Fuck Sarramkrop, as an Englishman to a Frenchman, you're cool. |
not really. and that's because you start a sentence claiming that you are. tedious, maybe, but cool?

But a place where they're treating people based on the language they speak doesn't sound like it ever could be the greatest city in the world, right? Anyway, the younger generation of Parisians has been very willing to conversate in English to me actually. Though of course I experienced as well that you instantly win a lot of sympathy when trying to conversate in broken French with a heavy foreign accent. But who wouldn't appreciate that? |
On a different note, I've lost count on the amount of stereotypes and predictabilities that have already been spewed in this thread.

You're cool too. You're drunk ? |
They all have their shit bits.. as far as I've seen. I've stayed in some miserable fucking places in many countries, only to turn a corner and find something beautiful. Right there, side-by-side with the shite.
"Every window in Alcatraz has a view of San Francisco"..? |
I have to confess that I haven't been to Paris in the last couple of years so I'm unaware of any immediate changes.
|
Quote:
it's the french and the english. they always choose the best stereotypes for themselves. damnit. |

To the point of triple vision. seriously. |
I just wish I'd named this thread Paris. Discuss.
