It's 1:16 AM, February the 1st around here. This means the traditionally coldest month is now officially over. Spring is now a possible future, no longer an intangible concept buried somewhere deep in the annals of yesteryear.

This winter's actually been pretty mild so far, but still. The lack of natural light and the whole drabness to it all really does get to me. Good to see that gradually fade and be replaced by something more agreeable over time.

Finally got to visit my sis at her new flat. She told me her cat is still a little shy with visitors at this new turf. She came out of her hiding place pretty soon though and would embark on an unbridled cuddle-spree. Seriously, it's been ages that I've seen that cat as aproachable as she was today. I think she took the move in stride. Yup, that is one content cat.

Got asked again to provide the visuals for a someone else's event. It's on tonight. I'm really happy with my mix. There's a lot of grainy, light-leaky Super 8 footage, some Stan Brakhage, Len Lye, Hans Richter and a pinch of VHS tape glitch and feedback experiments. I've even thrown in three of my own lo-fi shorts for good measure. And I really like the place it's being displayed at. If it's anything like last time, it's gonna mesh well with the music being played there. Looking forward to it.

Several things right now. The paper I handed in turned out to be alright. That's a mighty relief. I also found a location for my next event. It's only a temporary solution, I'm still on the lookout for something more permanent, but it's a good feeling not be sans venue in April. And it's a plus that it happens to be a cavern-like venue, throwing a lot of atmosphere into the mix.

And I'm kind of eyeing taking a trip to NYC in summer. It's been six years since my last visit and right now I'm still in a position where I can afford it. I don't know if that's the case in a year or two, so might as well take the opportunity when I still can. Browsed through several Airbnb and cheapo hotel options yesterday. This only sparked my wish to give it a shot again and gave me those warm and fuzzies that are tinged with memories. Still not 100% certain, but I'm heavily leaning towards a "yes" on that matter. And that's something to look forward to.

Ha! That reminds me of a conversation I had with one of the lecturers at my campus. During one lecture we were discussing things like corporate identity and the image a certain product is supposed to convey. He showed us this sheet with different BnJ flavors. And he was like "Now, looking at that, Cherry Garcia, Phish & Chips...what kind of audience is being targeted here?". And I was like "Someone who's got the munchies?" (knowing that he's kind of a chill person). To which he replied "That's not what I was going for, but if we stick to stoner-jokes, how about 'Half-Baked'?". Fun times. :D
