I dunno, that one with the little bratty kid was kind of annoying, I can hear the little twerp yelling "Indy! Indy! Indy!". Hollywood seems to think a bratty little kid is endearing to the audience, like they did in Mummy 2. Or i think it was Jurassic Park 2 with Jeff Goldblum, americas most annoying actor ("Look at me, I'm quirky Jeff Goldblum!"), his adopted daughter sneaks aboard the dinovan.

Rob Instigator 04.18.2007 03:39 PM

jeff goldblum had the best line in jurrasic park 2 though
"Oh yeah, that's how it always starts...Ohhhhh, Ahhhhhh, then there are the screams and the blood and the pain..."

something like that.

Did Indiana Jones 2 and 3 bring anyone surprises?

i hate a lot of spielberg movies because his populist take on things doesn't interest me, and the crowd-pleasing shit, well... let's say i dislike in on ideological grounds.

technically, however, you can't put a finger on the bastard. he is really good at his craft. unfortunatelly those talents are wasted on silly stories often times, but he has his good moments.

this is evident in his first or so feature,"duel", which tells the story of this neurotic wuss being chased by some angry trucker on the highway. the story is stupid, the characters are stupid & unlikeable, but the visual storytelling is formidable. so you have to give him credit.

"jaws" as a story is barely meh, but the way he puts the film together is where it's brilliant. this could easily have been a shitty b movie without him (in a way, it is, but...)

now: "empire of the sun" is a great fucking movie. he owes j.g. ballard the story, of course, so this movie is almost perfect for me because spielberg takes care of the visuals for something that is not mindless pap.

i hated spielberg so long that i have not seen a lot of his movies, like ryan's privates or that other, schindler's list, or the color purple-- a ton of them. i blame shit like "hook" and "e.t." and all the indianas for this.

but there are 2 sides to spielberg's talents, when he shoots a good story he's awesome at it.

Duel is quite thrilling, for something so simple to shoot it really comes off as menacing

he has one of the best eyes in cinema, he understands how to get the best angles, and even more impressive is his use of lighting as an emotional tapestry

i would recommend seeing Schindler's List once atleast, it's maybe one of the the most raw films ever made, no punches pulled, quite graphic at times

dude, don't dis Short Round!!

that lil' bastard can drive like the devil. if it wasn't for him, Indy would have died after leaving Club Obi-Wan!

foxforce5 04.18.2007 09:58 PM

Raiders of the Lost Ark is great fun, the other two movies merely ride its coattails.

afterthefact 04.18.2007 10:56 PM

I personally can't wait. I just hope Darth Vader is in it.

"Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", will be the new Indiana Jones film, hey "Temple of Doom" probobly sounded silly when it was first announced too.

He was only in one episode as I recall...he was the Norseman mascot, he fell and hit his head, and so they held tryouts and Sam became mascot.

Spielberg's "this is for you" comments really frighten me when I saw the comic con video.

But then again, Karen Allen is coming back who still looks beautiful as ever (one of the few actress I've had a crush on, despite all the films I remember her most from being film when I was still in diapers).

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 09.10.2007 08:56 PM

I heard it was about aliens.

If it is about aliens I'm gonna hate it, because that is not what Indiana Jones is ABOUT.

I hope Indie and Marion make a real go of it.

I'm tired of the James Bonds-like "new girl ever time" sort of attitude in action movies.

It is so misogynistic having women be so replacable in action movies. It is a fucking COP OUT. They don't want to have to pay more and more money to the female star, so they get a new one each time.

I want action heroes who are down with monogamy!

Update: The trailer will arrive in theaters on FEb. 14th. And hit the web 12:01 A.M. on the internet (officially). Wonder if this is a full length trailer or a teaser. Wonder if they will forgo even doing a teaser and simply show a full-length trailer.

barnaclelapse 01.20.2008 10:55 PM

End of story.
