Haha "casino sucks". Funniest thing I've heard all year. Maybe it's not for kids with short attention spans huh huh huh.

This quote confuses me. His best job adapting a novel? It's the only thing he's directed that he didn't write, period. So, by default it's the best and the worst. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your quote... EDIT: Oh I see, noisereductions already pointed this out. Carry on. |
I think the plot of Goodfellas is uninteresting and lacks momentum whereas Casino is gripping (with De Niro falling out with Pesci, the Mafia becoming frustrated with him, the tension rising). I'd rather have De Niro as a lead character than Liotta. I dislike the 'cool' Italian-American gangster-thing in Goodfellas (cunts) and appreciate the fact that De Niro is more an average bloke in a dangerous situation in Casino.
Just thought I'd state my reasons! I will rep atsonicpark for his picture of Sonatine - now that's a gangster film (of the poetic variety) - and mentioning Blow Out too, which is great and has a magnificently unhappy ending. |
Agreed.
Goodfellas is pretty cool but usually uninteresting, especially after already viewing it.... Casino is a masterpiece. I just love the scenes where Robert DeNiro and Sharon State have these epic fucking arguments for like 20 minutes at a time. Blow Out is one of my all time favorite films. And Sonatine! |

ha ha ha-- no it doesn't "suck" but goodfellas is way better or maybe let's just put it this way: if you had seen goodfellas by the time casino came out, you wouldn't have been so impressed Quote:
what the fuck? no no no no no-- so wrong!!! but anyway, everyone likes different. Quote:
i guess this is where taste and emotional inclinations meet-- to me, deniro in casino is such a pathetic character that it's painful to watch. i mean he's an utter nerd in love with a whore-- didn't we see that in blue angel? but anyway--- yeah casino is ok but goodfellas is fucking better-- its like a fucking rollercoaster-- all that forward-going energy. |
i had.
|
maybe it is that i really like the way goodfellas was edited.
|
Oh well, I don't want to debate what's better. The general consensus is that Goodfellas is more popular, at least.. and we can all agree it's better than Cape Fear (not that they're similiar at all). Haha.
|
Quote:
ha ha ok yeah. but cape fear wasn't bad! the only scorsese movie i haven't DARED to watch is that one with the moustaches-- wtf is it called-- di crabio-- hm-- the new york opera, eh-- GANGS OF NEW YORK. jeezus the trailers are so fucking horrid, i cringe at the thought of actually watching the thing. |
hahaha. you, uh, don't need to watch it. trust me. haha.

oh yeah-- my wife saw it-- she warned me about it. the one that surprised me POSITIVELY, i was like "eh, noh fakkin waiii" was THE AVIATOR. awesomely done-- i mean-- great production-- very fucking good. exciting & all that shit. i hadnt expected that. on the other hand, the oscar one, with that hot portuguese chick that looks just bland there, THE DEPARTED-- mang, that was a sorry plot and the way it unfolded was just wrong. not a horrible movie but just mediocre for me. like a C+. |
Yeah actually, I liked Aviator. I thought the Departed was pretty good for a remake though I'd rather watch the original (Infernal Affairs).
|
Quote:
ive been wanting to see that. cuz the contemporary one, looks almost like it was made for tv. i booed the oscar. infernal affairs-- wasn't it a chinese movie or something? |
i like casino better than goodfellas... maybe i need to watch goodfellas again... casino was just too stressful... i hate that as an excuse, and i guess that means it was successful as a film in getting the viewer involved, but i have no desire to see it ever again ... and goodfellas i really just couldn't get into that much... of course its fine but it falls into my "this is what everyone was talking about?" category...
i love gangs of new york. it should be seen if only for DDL. he is an absolute monster. its very carnal/tribal, and of course thats what Scorcese was going for, but DDL really brings you into it. it could be better of course... Aviator was ok, it did look very impressive at the least |

Yeah it's Chinese, and it's great. It's got two of my favorite actors in it, Andy Lau and Tony Wong. I think there's a whole trilogy of these films but I've only seen the first one. |
Quote:
Infernal Affairs II is some sort of prequel to Infernal Affairs I, with younger actors playing the same characters at a younger age... You see them both at police school and see their paths go different ways... I believe that the story of The Departed is more or less IA2 + IA1 (in that order). My mind is a bit of a blur about this right now because I've seen the two films one after the other and seem to merge indeed in one single film, but I believe IA2 is really worth watching if you saw IA1 and equally good (although quite different in tone). Never seen the third one, and I'm not too sure what the story is in that one. |

ah shit, iandy lau was in house of flying daggers and then (i had to google this, cuz i remembered his face) he was in kar-wai wong's days of being wild. i fucking love that movie. |
I dnt like mob movies.
