so.... lemme tell you about what i've been reading ![]() I think I liked it. It was just a bummer that my professor told me something I didnt want to know about the book after i've read parts 1-3. Kinda made it hard to read the last part of the book. reminded me of the bell jar, a little bit at least. ![]() only bought it cause everyone was posting it on instagram. when it arrived I was scared I would never read it/never finish it cause it's HUGE. once I started reading I couldn't put it down though. lots of interesting pieces by women and what clothes mean to them, how clothes make them feel, etc. kim gordon is in it as well! now I am gonna start with this bby for university ![]() and for PLEASURE I can't decide.. I am in the mood for some lorrie moore but I don't have anything by her at home that I haven't read but so many other unread books... |

The Stories of John Cheever

We have remarkably similar bookshelves. By the way, I have a sad, small life and its the petty things that cheer me. Do me a favor and tell me this makes you jealous: I have a shelf-and-a-half of Updike. All the novels, short story collections, the poetry and all but a few of the essays, plus about five academic books devoted to his work. I'm irrationally proud of this. |
I am green! And you should be proud, indeed. I'm not a fan of Updike's poetry, but I like his essays and other prose as much as his fiction. I read Self-Consciousness this summer. An amazing book. (Oops. Just realized I'd already talked about that book in an earlier post.)

I am just now getting around to Cheever, believe it or not. Finished THE WORLD OF APPLES. It wasn't until about halfway through the book that it really clicked into place, and now I'm hooked. The guy was amazing.

![]() My umpteenth go at this. These guys do a great job of critiquing their enemy but I'll be buggered if I can work out what they actually stand for. |

Oh wow. Glad you're well! |
Thank you, Sir!

hey, hold on a sec-- had you been unwell or am i reading too much into this?
|
Rumors of my unwellness have been greatly exaggerated.
No, I've been completely well. |
It was just a figure of speech. I hadn't heard any rumours in either direction.
|
I started a book club at the bar I work at.. Our first book will be this one
![]() Another member picked it and it's about Hitler waking up in 2011.. and it's supposed to be funny. WE SHALL SEE. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Er_ist_wieder_da |
Well into the Cheever stories now. My God, they're like little Hitchcock movies.
