I saw Paranoid Park yesterday. That shower scene was mindblowing.

Saw the 265 minute CHE' with my mom and brother and girlfriend on Satrurday. 20 minute intermission. I give it a 9/10
I have never seen such a long movie at the theatre. very good stuff. Nearly 80% is in Spanish. Epic.

9/10 - absolutely fantastic

I've been looking to see that for a while now. It really does sound amazing.

You won't be disappointed. Most documentaries tell you a story; this one places you in the middle of one, and let's you figure out the rest on your own.

Pretty unimpressive fare all round - tried to recreate the "vibe" of the 70's, but it failed on many levels, and the blatant quoting of other film references was pretty lame also. Poor script adaptation, lame acting, "horror" scenes telegraphed way in advanced, a seventies lead dude with a sculpted and buff noughties torso....




Not bad really - essentially a different retelling of the old "1984" thing - Julie Christie proves again that she's really not that great an actress, and certain scenes were reminiscent of an episode of "Trumpton".....saved by an ending which, if expanded upon, would have made for a far more engaging film.

^ yeah, the Amittyville remake was actually pretty damn good. Ryan Reynolds surpised me.

Yeah, I didn't dislike the Amityville remake. It just seemed a bit unnecessary them insisting it remained in the 70s. (I mean everyone by now knows the 'true story' schtick is a load of bollocks.) Setting it thirty years in the past allows for the usual references to pot smoking and Kiss posters but, as Melly says, the actual cast looked to contemporary. It would've worked just as well had they set it in the current era. As it is it looks like a bunch of gym addicts attending a fancy dress party. Everyone looked to well groomed. And if there's one thing people weren't in the 70s, it's well groomed.

the original amityville was so good that i see no reason to have a remake of it.
and yeah, F451 is a great story but not a great movie. i had to write a report about it last year that dealt with enstrangment which made it interesting. but i really dont like troffaut as a director. he makes good movies but i really dont like his way of directing, its very boring IMO



oh and i just saw the original The Blob. it was excellent. classic 50s horror

you can rightly say that there's "no reason" to remake any movie. Let's all just admit, that remakes are basically made to make $ without thinking up a new idea. Now that we've all accepted that, let's just view each film as its on film (the Pixies "Wild Honey Pie" is a different song than The Beatles'). Most remakes will fail when attempting to outdo an original, but if no one tried then we wouldn't have John Carpenter's The Thing for instance.

Carpenter's The Thing is a perfect justification for remakes.

Zebraman - really funny stuff.

OK, I'm no expert on asian cinema but I have to say this, every time I watch an example of it, the only thing I see is wackiness and extremity. I mean I'm sure they're producing other stuff but from what I can see a lot of just seems like a load of good-those-asians-are-crazy type movies.

Zebraman - Takashi Miike makes fun of Japanese superhero shows (sentai)
The main character is a school teacher obsessed with an old sentai show from the 70's and even makes himself a costume and starts fighting crime (the first villain he beats is wearing a crab on his head) His family life is going to shit and he's trying to escape into this superhero world. Then a real alien threat rears its head.

Those are just the ones that become popular here. You don't see the mainstream dramas and comedies because they're not that much different from western ones. There's nothing to make them stand out.

Zebraman is awesome, one of Miike's better films. Love the theme song! Goes on a bit too long (as do a lot of Miike's films...).

Watching Gran Torino. First time made me tear up since Clint's character was exactly like my dead grandfather to a T.

Blue State - too much whining - gave up 2/3 in.

-Girl Next Door (there are at least 4 well-known films called this and 2 involve porn; but one is a porn documentary)
-True Life: I'm a Porn Star (which of course airs on MTV and isn't sold separately but you can probably find this on torrents and youtube and such)
-there was an HBO 5-part series about porn.. how to get into the business, profiles of people already there, etc. Again, I saw this on a torrent about a year ago but have no idea what it's called, but it looked intriguing.
- Inside Deep Throat (this counts but it's probably not what you're looking for)
- Pornography (yes, that's what it's called, it's 5 hours on 2 discs, you can just look it up on amazon and it should come up)
- Being Ron Jeremy
- Porn Star Pets (this isn't what you're looking for but I had to throw it in, haha.. it's about porn stars and their pets; that's really what the documentary is about! Though actually it's a pretty good display of porn stars in a "natural" environment so it's pretty interesting stuff)
- Sex: The Annabel Chong Story
- Sick (not really porn but it explores some of the same psychology that goes into porn and performance art and such... and there's some pretty crazy stuff in it, like a guy drinking goat piss from a bottle while wearing adiaper after being tied up for weeks; also a scene where he nails his dick to a board)
- Indie Sex (this isn't really about PORN but sex in general and it's pretty cool)

I saw a film in the early 90s I think which featured Sharon Kane that was a look at the industry. It may be one of the titles Atsonicpark already listed but I can't say for sure cos I forget its name. It was pretty good anyway. Kind of an insiders look at the life of a porn star rather than a look at the industry as a whole.

It's not a documentary but the best feature film about the porn industry in Britain in the 70s is definitely Eskimo Nell.

Yeah, the best in my list is probably the one called PORNOGRAPHY; very comprehensive... it's like a huge history of the porn business but there's some other stuff in it that's nice. SEX: THE ANNABEL CHONG STORY is a making-of of a movie where she supposedly has sex with like 300 dudes. Her vagina gets sore and bleeds and such. Pretty crazy stuff.
