yes. and france, russia, china, iran and quite a few others got together recently and agreed to stop using the dollar. the last time this happened was with saddam in iraq. we all know what happened there.
the reason for the USA's position as a superpower is actually all down to it's geographic location. there are economists and others who could explain this properly. so no amount of american values or flag waving or speed or any of that ayn rand shit counts for anything, it's all down to position on the map. what's interesting about america is that it's run by corporations whose will is translated by hired politicians into legal policy. those corporations basically function like a collection of crack addicts with all the cash. they're leading their world into a new century of declining wealth for all but a tiny minority. its basically corporate feudalism. the only positive thing about this situation is that it is at least in its final stages and will eventually end. and one suspects there may be just a few folks across the world with a few greivances they'd like america to pay for once it does.
if what replaces it is another system of exploitation then if a society of people exists on the land called north america that is sufficiently spread between both coasts and in some state of inner functionality it will probably have survival advantages through trade that might enable it to thrive. but this will really only be down to location, not any sort of cultural superiority somehow embedded in the character of those people. there feelings of superiority and scorn for the rest of the world which doesn't speak their language will be the death of them in the end.
