Yeah. I have it. It's awesome, man. Don't front on a score just cuz it's Toto. Shit's fitting. |

It's just a fun little yakuza movie with some surreal stuff, some ultraviolence, and some humor. I didn't know there was much hype about it beyond that. It's not a great film, but it does what it does quite well. It's way too long though. I'd tell you to give it another watch. |
I'm going to have to go out of my way and defend DV with this post.
Although it can't quite capture the look of film just yet (HD-DV is pretty damn close to 35mm), it has a multitude of strengths from a filmmaker's viewpoint. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to use than film and certainly more time effective. It gives the filmmaker more freedom and relief, providing instant access to footage rather than dailies. It has superior portability and allows filmmakers to use smaller crews, meaning more money available for the film and even easier maneuverability. Also, if the director has enough talent it can serve many stylistic purposes. |
Sure. But most directors don't know how to use it, and the films look like shit because of it.
The best looking film I've ever seen that's obviously filmed in DV is probably Rampo Noir. |
![]() repo! the genetic musical - 3/10 ![]() Dunno how to rate this but it was great. |

^ I know it looks horrible, should be horrible, and has gotten nothing but horrible reviews... but that only makes me want to see it more! There's something wrong with my sensibilities. Quote:
^ So great. "The Grandmother" is horrifying, and "Premonitions..." may just be one of the most perfect things Lynch has ever done. This set is far better than the films found on DYNAMIC01. |
Peter Jackson just doesn't make them like he used to...
![]() Meet The Feebles. |
Yeah, Feebles is amazing. Those 3 Peter Jackson horror films are amongst the best films ever. Too bad the last watchable film he made was probably the Frighteners.
Had the chance to watch Bad Taste in theaters at a midnight showing a few years ago. One of the best moments of my life!! |
Agreed. Enough with the damn hobbits. Could you imagine how orgasmic of a splatterfest this guy could make, being the Hollywood heavyweight (pun intended) that he is now?
|
Yeah. I can't believe he went on to Lords of Rings and Kings of Kongs. Blah.
Dead Alive, Feebles, Heavenly Creatures, Frighteners... he had such a great filmography going. |
Imagine if he had made the Lord of the Rings films first and THEN Dead Alive, etc? Wouldn't that have been radical?... impossible, I know, but... yeah.
|
If he were to do a sequel to Dead Alive, securing the big budget that a LOTR director would get, and releases it Nationally rather than in limited screenings with full-on marketing campaign -- I'd pretty much think Jackson to be the smartest director ever.

![]() bride of frank - 9/10 Masterpiece of underground independant cinema. |

Yeah, what's the story with this one? I've never heard of it. Seems interesting. |
Super low budget film about an 80 year old bum looking for love. Based in New York. One of Howard Stern's favorite films. The box art has all these amazing quotes: "A masterpiece!" and they're all REAL quotes. When you watch it, you might think it's just some sleazy trash film but there's more to it than that.
The first scene has an 80 year old man hitting on a 5 year girl.. and it's hilarious, this sounds "disturbing", but it's hilarious.. "hey lil girl you think i'm handsome?" And then he hits her, in slow motion, in the head with a metal pipe, and he runs over her head and eats her brains. Later, he rips a dude's head off and shits down his throat. He also cuts someone's tits off, cuts someone's dick off, etc. All these really "serious" things are filmed in between scenes of him trying to get a date and hanging out with his friends that he works with and him taking care of cats. I can't really describe it.. it's VERY surreal, filmed in a really bizarre style.. there's some extremely psychadelic imagery... but most importantly it's one of the smartest, funniest films I've ever seen. Look it up on imdb... |
Adam, have you ever seen Spaceman?
|
Nope, but it'll be the next thing I watch, since it's on the netflix instant watch. THanks!!
|
haha, let me know what you think.
|
Bride of Frank sounds great. Just ordered it. Thanks for the mention.:)
|
Yeah, I can't see anyone NOT loving it!!
I'm already 3 minutes into Spaceman, nr, and it's a hoot. |

Glad you liked it man. Figured it was up yr alley. |
I'm a big fan of low budget guerilla cheapo filmmaking, noisereductions.
One of my favorite movies is a film called REFLECTIONS OF EVIL... ![]() This is some movie a guy did that's completely insane.. I'll go ahead and say it's like Eraserhead meets Street Trash.. and the guy hand distributed the thing himself, mailing 29,000 (!) copies to celebrities and shit... really insane. The film is this guy going around on the streets and doing crazy shit and he also mixes in footage from other films and commercials and stuff and never got the rights to do it or anything. He filmed stuff illegally at Universal Studios and some other stuff. Really crazy. |
hey atsonic, you a fan of the Zellner Bros? cool guys from austin. they make fucked up movies. you can watch PLASTIC UTOPIA trailer
here http://zellnerbros.com/plastic-utopia/ |
Fucking excellent, had never heard of 'em, just queued the two available films on netflix, thank you!

![]() The Evil Dead. |

![]() eternal evil of asia - 7/10 This one's a hoot. Someone gets turned into an actual, uhm, "dick head" at one point! Wildly goes from sex comedy to THE MOST DISTURBING HORROR EVER in a matter of seconds. Great film. |

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Dr. Eugene Felikson again. -- My favorite movie of all time. |
![]() poughkeepsie tapes - 6/10 Some of the worst acting I've ever seen, this one was just too funny to take seriously, reminding me of much better films (Last Horror Movie, Behind the Mask, Man Bites Dog, etc...) and much shittier ones (August Underground series, Blair Witch...). Really entertaining though and really short (not even 90 minutes) and some of the actual tapes are interesting. The actual killer is TERRIBLE though, he sounds like some horror movie dork. |
^ I dnt know. THat sounds kind of cool.
I actually like Blair Witch quite a bit. I freakin' HATE The Last Broadcast, though. What a piece of crap. |
Well, a 6 rating means "kinda cool".
If anyone wants to watch it: http://www.fastpasstv.com/the-poughkeepsie-tapes-2007/ |
![]() Anyone else love this one? |
Man, I haven't seen that one in years. I remember enjoying it. It used to be really hard to track down a copy... I remember on amazon, copies were going for like $100 because of the child molestation case and whatever... but my friend ended up having a copy and I borrowed it off of him. My mind's a bit hazy on it now, I should give it another watch when I get a chance.
